49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

it's been like this all year... there have been a lot of opportunities where we could have won games.. it's just we're not getting the ball to the right guy

I love Purdy, but he needs to step up next year

Handful of people are and have been for years.

it would be insanely difficult to be in Kyle's shoes this year. Most difficult position in the NFL in 2024. Star receiver sits out the beginning, then gets hurt for the year. running back renegotiates then sits out most the season, rookie gets shot. And those are the easier issues to deal with. Purdy sits out a game, deebo sits out a couple. Every receiver has major impact drops. Backup running back won't hit the correct hole. Linemen completely forget the playbook every single week. On top of that having to manage a special teams coach that shouldn't need managed. Coaching up a new defensive coordinator that is dealing with league leading injuries himself.

i dont wish that on anyone.

Bad play for sure. That throw made no sense to me. Check down wide open and the guy on the left had one on one. The pressure got to Purdy this year big time imo.

Jimmy G
It's a bad decision and throw, so I'm not defending it, but in terms of pure head-scratching - I think Purdy threw two quite similar passes recently - one to CMC and one to Guerendo. Both with anticipation, before the receiver had gained advantage, both vertical, both successful.
I think that's what triggered the attempt. But the ground conditions were not right for that kind of assumption in that moment. Bad choice. Terrible outcome.

I think jimmy completes it here, he's usually looking towards the middle and short. Brock has been trying to attack down field more this year. Another factor that contributed less YAC

Attack more downfield....without play action. The results are somewhat troubling considering the offeseason SF is heading into.

I don't think it's troubling yet. Get our guys back healthy, add a starting Center from FA, draft BPA

last place schedule and a years worth of film with hardly any motion.. championship!

That was a bad decision for sure on Brocks part. But, This should be posted in the Purdy thread.

Not sure why it's here? there is plenty of stuff to discuss re Kyle and his failures this season.

For example, trotting out this inept OL thinking it was fine, when everyone knew it was a bad decision before the season even began, falls on Kyle.

look at that protection in the video you posted. Whole OL collapse within 2 seconds. and it happened ALL GAME LONG. Even greats like Brady and Manning would get shook when getting battered. Brock dealt with this s**t all season. Even Allen I'm in his one game.

The OL needs to be addressed no matter who the QB is.

Yea purdy is much better than Jimmy… I wouldn't pretend otherwise. But a few decisions this year just seem boneheaded. Like Jimmy.

This is where I'm at as well. I'm willing to just call this a b******t year. Hard to place blame when every single thing that could go wrong went wrong. Give it a reboot and let's assign blame when there are less variables
So now we have several Purdy threads, this one included lol

It's a complete unknown as to we don't know what the deal will be for Purdy. It's almost an equal unknown if he can attack without relying on PA and the running game. That's mostly the troubling part. It's pretty apparent that there is a lot of evidence that he's not taking what is given....which is ironic since that actually would set up shot plays. 2024 can't get over quick enough.
Edit. Double posted.

I've been screaming this for awhile. It is partly on Kyle but I think it's much worse on the positions coaches.

I think Forester and Hankerson are the biggest culprits. I don't think Bullocks would've kept playing Brown this long if Hufanga had been healthy. Odum is just as bad or worse than Brown.

Lynch I think has one major flaw where he gets so blinded by character, that he misses the fact that a guy just isn't that good. Character is absolutely important, but you can't over value based on that. Take the best player who has a strong work ethic. Not everyone needs to be a team captain.
