We need better players. Younger players, smarter players and most importantly healthy players. We have a decent foundation to build on. That has to be the focus. Both lines need emergency help and we need quality depth. This is an unpopular take but it needs to be said. We need cleaner qb play. Brock is young and he will continue to improve but his ceiling is low. The decision making, accuracy and arm strength are real issues. Extending him is happening , no doubt about it but we can't sign him and then ignore the position. We need a quality backup and I fear we maybe in the market for a new starter sooner than anyone wants. I see Jimmy G happening all over again. Last night was very concerning. He showed us how good he can be and how damaging he can be. No qb is perfect but a int happy qb is not long for the league. Injuries played no role in his performance last night. He had time, he had open guys and he was hitting them for most of the game THEN… poof.. 2 backbreaking ints. None of the above has anything to do with coaching or scheme. Not on defense, not on offense and not on special teams. It's all performance and ability based. We need to be honest with ourselves.. Even when healthy, the roster had holes. The D line, O line, LBs, defensive backfield and special teams had gaps and questions.
i dislike Kyle for numerous reasons BUT he is capable of fielding a high octane offense. He is capable of rebuilding the roster and is is capable of winning. With all that needs to be done we can't afford the uncertainty of an entirely new system and wholesale turnover of the coaching staff. We would be looking at a 5 year suck and rebuild. This offseason will be very telling. I hope we don't take the run it back route. It's time to start pruning the tree to allow for new growth. Cut the dead and chronically diseased branches. I don't think we can afford to keep players that are great but chronically injured. Greenlaw is a stud but he is unavailable 35% of the time. Huff flashes greatness but is hurt most of the time. Trent is all world but he is old and hurt a lot of the time.. his body breaks down when we need him most.. late in the season…CMC is all world when healthy.. he has a well documented history of injuries. Yes injuries happen to every team but continuing to roster chronically injured players is asking for trouble.
I don't envy Kyle or Lynch's this offseason. So much need and so much to do. I look forward to the results.
