you said fire those guys, but they won't fire anyone..

you got what you want, what are we crying about now?

lol moving goalposts because he was dead wrong.

I'll have no problem admitting I was wrong if Staley is not promoted and Sorensen is not retained.

So far, just as I predicted, the only real casualty has been Schneider.

This is a great move. I and many on this site have been calling out for Shannahan to get himself an OC and Kubiak is exactly what we need. He is a "Yes Mam" but he might hold Kyle accountable by throwing Kyle a few curly questions like "Have you thought about this?" "Have you thought about that".

"Have you thought about trying to score in the 4th quarter rather than just trying to protect the lead?"

If Klay Kubiak only asks that question in every game, we are ahead in; he will be worth the signing!

He's had OCs for years, why are people acting like this is some new thing? LaFleur, McDaniel, Slowik.

Folks have created some weird Kyle is a dictator thing. Facts are he's had a ton of offensive minds on this staff that all have their hands in making everything go. Kyle has explained it multiple times and so have previous guys in that position.

San Francisco hasn't named an OC since Mike McDaniel in 2021. McDaniel didn't even run the offense, Kyle did.

Kyle's always run the offense. He's always had a helper that assists with gameplanning just like Andy Reid in KC. Reid runs and calls the entire offense but he's had helpers like Nagy and Bieniemy that assisted with gameplanning.

Kyle's first guy with the 49ers was LaFleur. After he went to the Jets it was McDaniel. After he took the Miami job it was Slowik. After he went to Houston it was Klint Kubiak. This past season it was Foerster and Klay Kubiak splitting the duties. Now it'll primarily be Klay.

A big issue is that fans seem to put too much stock into coaching titles. Offensive coordinator, pass game coordinator, run game coordinator... they are mostly just fancy titles.

Kyle has always leaned on some of his assistants to help with gameplanning. It goes back to his days in Washington. But ultimately he is the play designer and play caller, as that has always been his biggest strength.

McVay in 2018 and 2019 didn't employ an OC, he had a run game coordinator and a pass game coordinator. He still designed that offense and called the plays.

Offensive coordinator in a Kyle or Sean McVay offense is always going to be more of a fancy job title than anything else. It doesn't mean a whole lot.

Dude quit trying to make something out of nothing. There isn't ST coordinator currently. There isn't a DC currently…you're trying way too hard with the confirmation bias stuff.

Then why make the change?

Because Kyle is feeling the heat on those big 4th quarter fade outs.

As I said, lets see hoow this plays out in practice.

If we lose unlosable games in the 4th quarter again next year, I will agree with you that the change was only in name.

But I kind of think there has been some heat by management and the Yorks to make these changes.

Not big ones.

But changes that allow more balance in input on crucial decisions on offense.

As I said, let's see how this all pans out.

You're right.

Let me guess you'll then spin that hiring Saleh is not making a change either as he used to be here....

Whatever move is made be will be rooting for it to fail like always.

Because it comes with more prestige for the particular coach? It's a way to reward them for their hard work? It'll likely give Klay more HC interest in the future.

Kyle had a great time drinking and hanging out with his buddies during this losing season. Doesn't want to ruin the good times by focusing on winning football games LOL
reserving my opinions until vacancies are filled, draft complete and free agents signed and released. The ultimate judge of the off season will be the product we cheer for and criticize next year. The bar is competitive football worthy of a championship. We shall see if that bar is met. So far, I see baby steps in the right direction. That's good for now but expectations are high and I hope they are met.

It also keeps another team from just poaching him for their OC position. He's a guy who Kyle trusts his opinion and obviously does well helping to assist in the offensive meetings and game planning. Now he has a better title and likely a small raise for his efforts.

very good post. often winning the offseason, and winning when it counts are two different things.

And maybe will be allowed to call plays at some point…

We are the bourgeois club.

I'm sure that's part of it too. Its a nice gesture for a coach who Kyle feels should be rewarded for their efforts.
