49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

Whether the rule is stupid or not, they are playing by the rules so Kyle should've known better.

Knowing all this stuff is part of being the head coach.

That's not a good look after a good (in my opinion) start of offseason.

It was simple... Kyle should have just shut his mouth, said he will interview candidates for the OC position. Then choose Klay. THAT f**kING SIMPLE!

Now with Kyle, again being horrible at knowning rules or paying attention to details..being unprepared, puts Klay and the team in a weird position (like he did to poor Jordan Mason with the press) that if he does do interviews... and picks Klay, the running theme would be that Kyle never took those other interviews serious.

The solution to this is still simple... request interviews to coaches you know will accept this circus situation, then announce Klay as the OC. Do NOT request interviews with coaches who have any pride, who looking for OC positions. To where you're the laughing stock because everyone knows what is going on, and those types of coaches will decline the interview..and the media will make a story out of it (since you soft fans care what the media thinks or how our players treat them).

Interview some young assistants that are looking to get a position to gain experience as a pass game coordinator (Klay's previous position). The interview would be beneficial for them.. they don't get OC title.. but can also apply for the other position and get hired there (be it after another interview, if needed).

I agree in that Kyle totally messed this up. I also think it wouldn't have hurt to have 1 or 2 legit candidates for interviews. What could it have hurt? Get some other eyeballs on the offense, other ideas, etc. Even legitimately entertaining the idea of surrendering playcalling duty. Offering other positions up would've been wise as well. Just a total muff by Kyle. I support him as being head coach but this kind of stuff is why some think he's too myopic to be head coach.

No, because that makes too much damn sense.

Kyle needs 100% control over who ever gets that position, he needs a yes man. We saw how he treats a coach who is not a yes man (Steve Wilks).

Kyle said it himself, Klay is going to be doing the same thing he has been doing these past few years. The only difference is that Klay will have the OC title now.

For other folks, anyone who didn't watch the press conference, watch it. Or watch it again. Pay attention to Kyle's words. Nothing is going to change on offense....nothing is going to look different, unless Kyle wants it to. It's not going to be because of Klay Kubiak.

So a guy who's worked for him for 2+ years and is due a promotion in Kyle's mind, is bad? Sounds pretty normal to me, and a smart man with common sense wouldn't relate about such a dumb rule in this case.

The rule in this situation is f**king dumb. Do you both work? That's like saying when your annual review comes the company/and your manager must look at external candidates before they can even consider promoting you.
