49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan Thread

Very dumb rule. I can't imagine any other business that wouldn't allow you to promote someone from within without interviewing people from the outside. Teams can promote GMs and give them the title of VP. Position coaches are promoted and moved around all the time. Why should coordinators be any different.

Ther NFL rule is a sham anyway. Teams can bring in anyone they want as long as he's someone of color and comply even though they never had any intention of hiring him.

It's a very dumb rule. Kubiak already knows he's going to get the job.

Apparantly Lynch or nobody else did either. I didn't see any fans complaining when he did it so I guess none of us knew it was a violation. I guess it only appies to coordinators but why? Dumb rule. The NFL needs to get it's collective head out of it's ass.

The NFL requires that teams promoting a coach to a coordinator job must interview other candidates. This only applies to jobs that didn't previously exist. In other words if Kyle had an OC that left he could promote from within but since he didn't have an OC he is required to interview other candidates. It's more of a technicality than any real violaton.

Um, he should fight it.

Why fight it? What he'll do is roll his eyes, do some sham interviews, and then promote Klay.

What is he fined, money?

Still waiting for an answer on this… it kinda matters…

Technicality if it's a slap on the wrist or a small fine. Costly if it's a draft pick…

If it's money, I'd let it go. If, it's a draft pick - I'd fight it.
It's an issue that rarely comes up I suppose since most coaches usually have a coordinator or they don't. It's a bit unusual to change from no OC to having an OC even if it's in name only. I don't fault Kyle for not knowing the rule. If it was a well known rule writers and fans would have caught the mistake right away. I doubt they would take a draft pick away for something this insignificant but I would never put anything past Goodell.

No draft picks. That would only happen if Kyle just says, idc about the rule and won't interview anyone else. Right now it's probably just a fine.
If I remember correctly, Mike McDaniel was promoted to OC without jumping through all these hoops. Why is it an issue now that Klay is being promoted?
