My biggest concern with Kyle is how we do our protections. Teams have started using our rules to get pressure on us too consistently and leave our guys blocking air. IMO that's the thing that critical for Kyle to get ahead of this offseason...why I hope he gives Brock more control at the line.

Either way we'll see what happens soon enough.

I don't think Shanahan has let Garappolo or Purdy audible once. At least I can never remember one.

Run the play as called and don't go off script. It's what he wants and he will never change.

See now that's an issue with Kyle that I 100% agree with and hope he changes his opinion on it.

Also it's technically not 100% true what you said, but I know what you meant. They can audible and have. They can check out of pass plays into run plays(some people have speculated that Jimmy actually did that in the SB) what they don't have the ability to do is adjust protections and I'm pretty sure they don't have the ability to adjust WR routes on the play(someone smarter than me can confirm that)

I pray Kyle gives Brock that ability. I understand why Kyle does it(he talked about it on the playcallers podcast and it makes sense in some ways) but in key moments in the game I would rather he give that power to the player IF he sees fit to use it. In those moments I'd rather the QB trust what he's seeing. It may not always be the right thing but I'd rather they react to what they saw vs what the coach expects them to see. That little wrinkle could make the difference in a big game.
Licking his chops and getting cocky (probably thinking).... hmmm which QB could I snag late in draft and turn into something special AGAIN, rubbing his hands while contemplating and drooling (Brady Cook)

Purdy doesn't call his own plays at the line. Kyle gives him two plays. They run the first play most of the time. The first play called has different progression approaches for Purdy depending on what the defense is showing pre-snap. If Purdy doesn't like what he's seeing and wants to run the 2nd play, you'll hear him audible to the second play with "Can Can". When you see him tap his helmet with two hands, he's signalling to flip the play. Kyle has always allowed his quarterbacks to adjust the protections as well, but his quarterbacks trust the center to do it themselves.

As for running the play off-script, Kyle is fine with that. He has spoken about how Matt Ryan would abandon the called progression and just feed Julio when he was under pressure. Kyle told Ryan that if he felt hot and sees it, throw it. In Washington, Cousins was new and noticed during film that an opponent tipped blitzes and asked if he could adjust the protection instead of throwing hot. Kyle was fine with that and he preferred the quarterback throw it without pressure than under pressure. During the game that week, Cousins adjusted protection and the play call three times, succeeding twice. Kyle has always allowed his quarterbacks the freedom to make something better. Shanahan sees his offense as a baseline to help build confidence as it usually has the answers to whatever the problems defenses present. What also helps keep Shanahan quarterbacks on script is that they play an active role in the advancement of the system.
