Brendel is probably gone after this yr. Purdy needs to play better himself though. Dude was holding onto the ball way too long last yr. Love the thought process of throwing it downfield, gotta understand when to do that though.

Every year, there is at least one player on the roster the vocal minority of loud fans seem to hate that the coaches and front office love. Brendel and Aiyuk are the co-recipients of the 2025 Jimmie Ward award.

At least be diplomatic about it and say stuff like, we evaluate every position, competition is great, we're always looking to improve

This sounded like a big vote confidence and I don't get it all.

Since they didn't sign a notable vet free agent Center it's likely that any young guy they bring in who could eventually be the starting Center won't be on opening day 2025. Therefore there's little incentive to talk poorly of Brendel to the media in that context.

Now, if they make a trade for a guy during the draft or a rookie beats out Brendel in camp that's another matter.

Brendel wasn't absolutely ass. He was actually pretty good at run protection, which is what the Shanahan offense prioritizes. I don't agree with Kyle's assessment about his pass protection abilities, but I think Kyle's also factoring other responsibilities he asks of his centers outside of blocking. Again, there are players fans hate the the team will love. Kyle is around these guys most of the year and is more in tune with the finer things besides the numbers on a stat sheet.

Big year coming for Kyle. He will earn his money filling a lot of gaps on both sides of the ball. Rookies and new camp bodies will require a lot of his attention. Now that we have a dc, Kyle can focus on the offense. Fun season ahead.
