It's not wrong. I guess Kyle was exposing the fan opinion that Cassius Marsh isn't very good when he claimed they were happy with him and you don't just replace a guy like that?

What do you honestly expect him to say when we don't have a clear guy to start over him?

brendel takes a ton of heat on here, some of which is warranted but i think it goes too far.
I hear you, And I've watched Brendel, even every one of his games at UCLA. (Bruin like me ). I don't think he's as bad as his rep here, I think he's average. Would I like an all pro center? of course, we all would. I think there are bigger holes to fill than Brendel. We'll get to him when the opportunity is there, I wouldn't be surprised if an upgrade happens next season.
For now, he is serviceable.
As far as Kyle's comments about him, it's coach speak. who knows what they really think, and who cares.

Lol like he cares about/reads Zoner comments. Poor victim Kyle who shat away the SBs
People put way too much stock into one off still photos.

Also, most people age over a decade. Who knew.
Did he really say that they didn't draft starting caliber players on purpose in 2022-23 because they didn't need starters?

Bruh, there is video.

Also, it hasn't been decade, so you are making their point.

We've gone into drafts these last few years, not as much last year, but especially the two years prior to where you look at our board, and it's like, man, we don't really have to find a starter anywhere. You've got to find depth because quickly there's a starter with an injury. I remember going into it three years ago and felt the only starting position we could find was a kicker because we were so solidified.
If you look at their drafts, they aren't really drafting to fill the roster with an immediate starter, especially in 2023 and 2022 that Kyle emphasizes.

  • 2024
    • Pearsall - WR
    • Green - CB
    • Puni - G
    • Mustapha - S
    • Guerendo - RB
    • Cowing - WR
    • Kingston - G
    • Bethune - LB
  • 2023
    • Brown - S
    • Moody - K
    • Latu - TE
    • Luter - CB
    • Beal - LB
    • Winters - LB
    • Willis - TE
    • Bell - WR
    • Graham - S
  • 2022
    • Jackson - DE
    • Davis-Price - RB
    • Gray - WR
    • Burford - OL
    • Womack - CB
    • Zakelj - OL
    • Davis - DT
    • Castro-Fields - CB
    • Purdy - QB

Puni earned the RG starting job. Moody was drafted with the intent of being the starter, but that doesn't really count. What Kyle said doesn't mean they don't think the players are starting-caliber players or can develop into starting-caliber players. The roster didn't really have any glaring holes. He's not really wrong. Some bubbled up the depth chart as injuries happened and were able to show they were ready to fill that role permanently.

And I get it. Fans want the team to address the OL, but they simply decided not to prioritize it early. Shanahan trusts Foerster and Foerster will tell the team to prioritize skill players.
This is my personal opinion, if they ask me, invest in guys that touch the ball, guys that can touch the ball and score touchdowns. And then there's a range of guys, second, third, fourth round, fifth round even, that we will find starting offensive linemen in.

Do you realize that Kyle's explanation and your explanation are lame/laughable as f**k right?

I rounded up a couple years.

Yes, he looks older. So do I. So does everyone. It's called aging.

Don't think that warranted the extra flair at the end there even if you don't agree with the thought process.

The fact is when you don't have a first round pick and you're not picking in the draft until late 2nd or late 3rd round(which was the case in 2022 and 2023) it's hard to realistically expect adding a bunch of starters in those scenarios.

However I can never get behind drafting a kicker that early just to "guarantee a starter" especially when we've seen so many failed early drafted kickers in the past. Though personally as I said at the time and it's still the case with hindsight my most hated pick in those two drafts was Latu in the 3rd round.

Wasn't a fan of the TDP pick in 2022 but I understood the idea behind the pick - big overreaction to the struggle to pick up the 2nd and 1/3rd and 2 vs the Rams which led to us losing that NFCCG in 2021. You don't overdraft a RB just because you think he's great at avoiding negative plays. Lesson learned HOPEFULLY!
