His background prior to working with the Flyers:
Working with the players and performance coaches of elite teams in the NFL, NBA, NHL, and NCAA Division I. I help teams identify and evaluate contextual analytics by measuring training volumes, (accelerations, decelerations, change of direction speeds, biomechanical and physiological load quantifications), in real time, to improve performance outcomes and reduce soft tissue injuries of athletes.
Sounds like he'll be setting the philosophy for the training and sports science program while yet to be hired strength and conditioning coaches do the hands on work.
His specialty has been decreasing injury frequency and improving injury outcomes so thus far he sounds exactly like what this team needs. He's worked with the Flyers, the NHL, the U.S..Olympic team, various NFL, NBA and MLB teams in a consulting role. Pretty impressive background.
This is a positive nice

Hope this works. I'm glad they recognized this was an issue and actually did something about it.

Maybe someone can teach our own dumbass players to test the fields out pre game and change their cleats accordingly.
And yes...our own field remains a huge issue and certainly isn't a home field advantage.

While I'm not usually a fan of totally outside the box hires, he has experience with all athletes and he's a sports science guy not a coach so NHL doesn't bother me. Not to mention, NHL players are the only US athletes more exposed to injury than NFL players (contact and sheer # of games) so anyone that excelled in that role should excel in the NFL too.

Hiring a guy from hockey to train nfl athletes. Yeah that should work out great.

Clearly you didn't read Phoenix's post 305 or do any due diligence into his background. Try again.

Due diligence? Good luck with that
9ers move = bad. Only level of analysis needed

Good news? Less upper body injuries for the Flyers this season than the previous year.
Bad news? Mostly lower body injuries this season, especially the goalies.
Well, those injured goalies stink and now they have the best goalie they've had in over a decade playing for them. Philly's goaltending has always been a revolving door with journeyman veterans bound to get hurt. Philly over the last 2 years has been among the least injured teams when looking at the majority of players.
Injury data from NHL:
this year

last year
http://nhlinjuryviz.blogspot.com/2017/10/201718-team-injury-breakdowns.html
VS:
2014-15 (6th most injured team in league)
http://nhlinjuryviz.blogspot.com/2015/04/201415-team-injury-breakdowns.html
Tracking goalie data on injuries is more misleading. Especially a team like Philly.

I doubt he will do much training. I think his role is to use sports science and analytics to prevent training from leading to injuries and training as injury-prevention.
