I think its a defense designed to stop the pass, because of Kyle. Kyle knows he's going to be able to put points on the board, and there aren't many coaches (other than maybe Sean Peyton or perhaps Bellicheat) that can equal him in coaching ability to either score points like Kyle, or stop him from scoring points.

So he basically says, I'm good enough an OC to score a ton of points, and I know you are going to have to pass to catch up to my offense, guess what, I ain't letting you catch up to me with my **Pass** defense. Hence the wide 9.

Saying he doesn't choose his schemes, assistant coaches or starters
Preferring Wade Phillips to be the DC

All of this can be true without hate though. That's the difference. Not many, if anyone, really hate him. Some may prefer a more seasoned veteran DC, or perfect a different scheme, or question his overall role/significance at this juncture, hoping he gets a HC if seen as a win-win, etc.

Dude took over a nightmare and he met almost all of my metrics each year for improvement.

I'll be in agreement with Woo if we can find another Haley 2.0 in next years draft, because if not, he may still be locked into the Big Nickel stop the run first philosophy. But from what I can see with Dre's incredible play this year and Azeez and how they got Kwon and Fred continuing to get better and better, Saleh's is really growing into the DC role and I would agree with Kyle. One more year and he'll be ready to step into a head coaching role.

Now whether he will be a *winning* HC will be determined by his OC that he picks. Still disappointed in Fangio letting Scangarello go. Dumb move in my opinion.

Saleh's defense has always been mostly 1 gap, shoot the gaps and playing in the backfield. In addition, the team has been emphasizing the pass defense over run defense by getting speedy stack linebackers who can cover since 2017. All gas no brakes apply all the way back.

LOL. All gas no brakes is a silly media mantra. Every defense would love to play that way every snap. Unfortunately, players still have assignments and have to play off their keys and within the play calls. Lynch has added some critical personnel who CAN pin their ears back more in Bosa and Ford and the W9 calls for it more schematicaly. But Saleh will always be stop-the-run-first.

LOL. Talking about making stuff up.

My lord. He's literally said this 100 times to date. And it's smart...stop the run first and get yourself in position to actually BE all gas no brakes.

It's true. Stop the run on 1st and 2nd down so they can feast on 3rd. It's a whole lot easier to get a sack when it's 3rd and 8 than when it's 3rd and 2

Definitely. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that mindset. But it's also important, in a passing league, to have personnel on first and second downs, who can do both too. There was certainly an emphasis to expand this off season, in scheme, philosophy and in getting the personnel who could accomplish it. Good stuff.

Well, as far as I know of the Kiffen one gap (added to the Kocurek wide 9) is that you shoot the gaps to get to the QB and clean up the run afterwards. I saw a play that illustrated this in the Vikings game. It was a draw play, and Buckner shot the gap and saw the draw and basically hit the RB in the backfield. I've always thought that Saleh was a big read and react guy on first downs to stop the run, and it's on 3rd and longs when he shot the gaps to get to the QB. If so, I still think that's a big 180 degrees philosophically. I.e. from stopping the run first to -- shooting the gaps first to stop the pass -- and oh by the way if you see a run, just wreck the blocking scheme to stuff the run.
Great f**king job. 2 nice blitz calls. And having Sherman following Adams some has been great. Props to Sherm b/c I don't think he likes doing it. Just showing his
greatness.
Crickets in this thread.

I dont think shanny is happy the defense took its foot off the gas. Again.

This hot take is just as bad as when people said Lynch and Shanny were fighting.
Well see what happens after the super bowl.

Awesome job. I think I saw him throw up on the sidelines at the end of the game too. Nerves, I'm sure.

Foot off the gas = letting them dink and dunk their way down the field and run the clock down. They used 11:30 in the 3rd quarter to score 13 points.
