So, Mitchell will be our NT, in our 4-3 scheme, correct?

Nope, we are converting him to QB

I think he'd be ideal as our NT.
My prediction and pick all along. NO NEED TO SPEND $30 MILLION on a Kwan Short etc., him and AA takes care of Left side. We can now draft his backup, re-sign Dorsey or Ian Williams, or keep who we have as a backup.

Yes,, our NT, Dorsey or Williams (if healthy) can back him up adding tremendous depth. We can also draft a backup NT on 3rd day. Saves us $$$ too, as Poe or Shortt would have cost us double!
So far so sucky for Lynch.

I hated the Lynch hiring when it was first announced but you couldn't be more wrong here.

For starters, K'Waun Williams and Earl Mitchell had multiple options, in some cases contenders. They both chose us.

F***ing yay. Super Bowl.

Niners had plenty of marginal DL & CBs already. These were lateral moves. They need real starters.

The "real starters" aren't available until March 9.

And you clearly missed the point of my post.

Why break the bank on Poe or Shortt when we can sign a good player in Mitchell for the fraction of the cost?

In other words: why be a great defense when you can be an ok defense & feel good about not paying a bunch of money?

It's not like the team needs to f***ing pinch pennies right now. They need guys around whom they can build a championship team. Earl Mitchell isn't one of those guys. And NT is probably the most important position on the defense.

Also, there isn't a lot of talent at positions like WR in FA, so you might as well load up on defense while the getting's good.

Okay no offense... but now I think you might be trolling at this point.

Alshon Jeffrey, DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garçon, Vincent Jackson, Michael Floyd, Victor Cruz, Anquan Boldin... and that's just off the top of my head.

I'm just focusing in on the NT position, but I'm not going to pay a ton of money to someone who's job is to take on blockers. Mitchell can do just as good a job as a Poe would do at a fraction of what we'd be paying him.

You get some core players and surround them with role players. We can still get Allen who would be a stud with Buckner and mitchell will be a role player. You can't have studs at every position especially in the beginning. Develop through the draft, when you are ready then sign the studs. We did this in Harbaugh's first year and it paid off.

I'd rather pay Mitchell $4M a year than pay Williams or Poe $12M+ a year. Like I said last year, I would have never done the Olivier Vernon, Malik Jackson, Kelechi Osemele, Bruce Irvin, Janoris Jenkins, Sean Smith, Damon Harrison deals, way way way too much money.

Now Smith was demoted/benched, and people were pissed we didn't offer more than what he got, $40M.
