This likely puts an end to any speculation we take Allen at 2. I can still see us signing another run stuffer in FA but not drafting one high.
Does this mean Reuben Foster at 2? That will become very clear over the next few weeks as FA heats up!

We'll be fine.
No I'm saying they will all be a FAs at some point and it's gonna be right around the same time....look at the Jet's they drafted multiple DEs around the same time and now are gonna lose Richardson most likely. OH and they still suck lol.
Allen is a good player but we need players just as much at other positions, DL isn't our weakness overall (compared to everything else).

Allen would play the 3 tech, not the nose tackle. So it doesn't really matter.
The only reason they'd take Allen is if they don't believe in Armstead after watching the film.

Could be but they don't need just one upgrade on the DL. Mitchell is good but not elite, if Allen is seen as elite then they could still go after him. I would expect them to possibly trade down though if they don't go Allen, Garrett or QB.

This is true...unless they envision but Buckner and Armstead as DE's...which I highly doubt for both. One on the strong side, yes.

Another stud on that Bama DL is Da'Ron Payne dude is gonna be just as good as Allen. I wouldn't hate going after Dalvin Tomlinson in say the 3rd. He's a bull and eats up blockers I didn't see him getting pushed back much this yr.

A power line of Armstead/Mitchell/Allen/Buckner would be pretty much in contention for best young line in the NFL. Then when you think pass rush late in games you have Blair, Lynch, Carradine...
It likely does mean no Allen but not definitely. Setting up the draft by filling needs before you get there is a very smart move and one of Baalke's better moves--until all the elite players left.

It's sounding like a 1 yr deal and doesn't even touch the possible $100 million we could have in cap space...fine signing can never had enough DLs. OH and it doesn't count against comp picks next yr cause he was released.
Good smart signing, our DL coach had worked with him and I'm guessing they know more than us
I think we paid him more because we are expecting him to start. He was likely going to be part of a rotation in Denver and Seattle so they weren't comfortable paying as much.

Good addition, this probably spells the end for Dorsey and Ian Williams.
I'm surprised they didn't release anyone yet.

Williams signed an injury settlement I believe.

That's what worries me. We overpaid for essentially a rotational player who is going to be a starter.
Some have mentioned he has been poor against the run in Miami because of the Wide 9 scheme they run. So hopefully I am wrong and he excels here. I don't think paying for another NT in FA is a smart strategy.

It was a million dollar difference, that's peanuts in the grand scheme of things. I have no idea if they think he will be a starter but you can never have enough DL depth and we need some vets on that line.
Too low cost good signings and FA hasn't even started I like it

When I look at the niners DL I see a lot of guys who are lean and more suited for the 4/3. So this switch will likely be a smoother transition than many think. The only power player who might not be as good is Armstead, but I believe he will be fine. Being more aggressive might suit him well.

He's been hurt, too early to tell if he's a bust.
