Which makes 9 mil a season for Hankins seem all the more unlikely to just be a situational run stuffer. Hankins is a three down player and I would think he would want to remain one.

I think that depends on what the team plans on doing with Buckner and Armstead on passing downs. We know Lynch will be there on passing downs. So it comes down to how much money do you want sink into running down players.
For the record, Hankins can rush the passer but again, I think it really comes down to where will Buckner and Armstead be lining up on passing downs?

I'm hoping they mix it up and move guys around. Blair and Buckner, in particular, could move inside or outside. They are quick and great off the ball, and strong enough to hold up in the middle. I believe the natural set would be Blair/Armstead/Mitchell/Buckner. That would be a formidable pass rush line. We've seen that Armstead and Buckner can only be stopped by a double or triple team, leaving Blair and Mitchell straight up.

My good friend is a Dolphins fan. Said Mitchell is a solid player but just can't stay healthy.

Yeah, that's my primary concern. I don't like oft-injured players at big money. However, no contract is ever guaranteed in the NFL. We'll see what happens, but you have to take a chance on the guy given the interest from other squads.
How much was his contract? I wouldn't think he got a big money

$4.5 to be a back-up? I think he'll start, but I think this move is to stop the hemorrhaging with the run game as opposed to a long term fix.
Agreed and I love you point about his character and high motor and veteran leadership. With Buckner, Armstead, Blair, Harold, Dial, etc. these are all young kids and Dorsey will most likely be gone. Having that veteran to feed off of will be just as important as his motor and high character. It also doesn't preclude us from going after a 2-gapper in FA or the draft either. All of our DL is very versatile and can play all over the place and in rotation. The term "starter" just needs to be thrown out almost.

Could be another Jonas Jennings. We were dismal and he was brought in primarily for his leadership. Couldn't stay healthy and wasn't a top player but his leadership was solid...until Nolan called him out on his toughness.

I hear you, in a perfect world, we'd be able to sign Hankins, and draft Garrett. I think B. WIlliams and Poe will be tagged. Adding Hankins would give us that BEEF up the middle, and Garrett would give us a lights out LEO. These two guys would do wonders to help transform our D, and hopefully we can find some descent LB's in the draft as well to help with the D. On O, I would focus on FA to get established veterans who know the system and can help teach the current and future young guys how to be successful in it.
nope poe is good to go. chiefs will tag berry

God I hope now...Clements too. Just cringe every time I hear their names. LOL
Either way, he's an upgrade over TJE.
