Its actually more the opposite, he provides good pass rush pressure up the middle but has been so so against the run.

The only person i have heard that form is Jeff Deeney everyone else has said the opposite.
A solid player against the run!! Yes good play Niners. My boys out in Miami loved him, great hustler. We shall see. Good signing I say

As depth, possibly playing a lot as DT in nickel, or in base as a rotational Strong side end, or weak side tackle, seems like a good signing. Especially considering the other teams that were interested (Seattle, Atlanta, who run the same D we will, and Denver, who knows D)

If he's supposed to be our 1 tech We still need 1 or two Fat Guys.

Is this from watching him play or reading around?

Just a point of information. If FA starts officially in 2nd week of March, how is it that we are signing FAs right now? i'm missing something, obviously. What?

He was cut so he's free to sign anywhere

Interesting. Everything I've read says he's a better run stopper. I guess we'll see. Perhaps a solid, balanced player. Hasn't played too many snaps so he should have fresh legs.

Jcool's post number 15 pretty much sums up what I've read as well.

Gotcha..I was just stating that since Vance Joseph wanted him as he was the Dolphins DC last year is a good sign for us and the Dolphins didn't just dump him because they thought he sucked. Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know why the Dolphins released him at first.

Just reading. Also, personally not fond of any NT that isn't Fat (320 ish).

Walter is pretty much the equivalent of a lesser-informed member of a random NFL football forum. He just posts a lot of abject nonsense.

Lol so true.

Oh no I agree with you. The Broncos hard an offer for him and he chose us instead. Says a lot that his former DC was going after him. I'm glad we are making moves. This has Adam Peters all over it (seems like a move the Broncos would make).

He's going to be a 4-3 dt

He was a starter for one year in Houston in which they struggled mightily against the run. He is more quick than powerful, adept at bringing pressure up the middle but not a guy who will anchor and hold up the middle well.

I like the Jay Ratliff comparison. A penetrating NT. They can still draft or sign a fatty to stop the run

Agreed with this. He can penetrate and get into the backfield to stop the run, but can get washed out easily as well.

As long as they add a true NT, this could wind up being a pretty good move if Mitchell can stay healthy. Nice DL depth overall.

I agree Phoenix. It's kind of like how the Seahawks have a more fast and athletic attacking DL in the same scheme we'll be running. Hence probably why Seattle was pursuing him too.
