It's a bittersweet situation with Juice. He was actually the very first player I made a FA thread for after we signed Kyle. I loved watching Juice play in Baltimore. Dude was a hammer back there, but he suffered a bunch of injuries and had to change his style. Of course, being the brilliant guy that he is, he adjusted and didn't miss a beat.

That said, I think he's gone, and his interview today made me believe he feels the same. We just can't continue paying him a premium. Someone else will pay him. He doesn't get enough targets/carries here to really justify the money. Again, I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but McVay has moved more towards 12 personnel. I wonder if Shanny does something similar and use that second TE sparingly as a FB on certain plays.

but Juice alluded to something which gave me pause for a second. When asked about
his role, and how he fits with the Niners, he went on, to paraphrase:

"Yeah I fit well with this team, as well as with the players ...
but who's to say that couldn't happen with another team and how I'd be used. So yes, it's
interesting"

He did mention that when he signed with th 49ers, he was only 25 YO, so getting that bag
for security was important. Now he said " I'm married and want to start a family, so being
on a contender is just as important as the money"

Well we should have everything he wants here, the money, the team that is a contender but there is one thing we have that other teams dont that Juice said would play into his decision and that folks is Running Backs coach Bobby Turner, Juice loves coach Turner.

If it works out that all things become equal, then hopefully, Coach Tuner will be the Niners Trump Card

will he come back if Seattle offers him more money ??

The Seahawks have less money than we do for 2021, and they have to extend Jamal Adams, he won't be happy playing on his 5th yr option number, yes they can save $14.1M by cutting Dunlap, but, the 49ers can easily create cap room to keep Juice and others, I have no doubt in my mind that Juice comes back for 2021 and beyond. Same for Trent Williams, it's more of I'm not sure the 49ers will be able to afford to keep K'Waun, Verrett & Hyder. I'm wary of paying Verrett and Hyder big money, Verrett hasn't been able to stay healthy during his career, and Hyder's only had 2 good years, both with the same DL coach. As for K'Waun, I have no issues paying him top dollar, but, with the cap dropping, and he's I think 30 ish, I'm not sure the 49ers will pay that kind of money to a Slot CB, I hope I'm wrong though.

Thanx AB, I forgot that Jamal Adams still needs to be paid. Feelin' better now

I very much agree with this post. I love Juice too but paying a premium for a fullback in a passing league that is going in to a salary cap year where money is going to be extremely tight just ain't gonna work. We have too many other important people to pay (Williams, Verrett, Hyder and extend Warner). I also think the Niners really like Hokit and might be eyeing him to take the reigns very soon.

Hokit is very intriguing they kept him on the practice squad all season. When he played at Fresno state he did it all. Good receiver ball carrier he was just a little slow but has the size and toughness. He was also a terrific wrestler at the collegiate level.

I truly hope we don't pay Verrett what he should earn Based off this great year he had. Loved watching him out there. But far too risky. We've been burned enough by injury prone players . Time to make smarter tighter decisions. Can't imagine him coming back on a team friendly deal when some hungry team with cap space will pay him what he deserves

I could see Hyder signing a somewhat team friendly deal(considering his play was good). If the cap drops then everyone will be strapped for cash this year.

Kwaun is a good one and a tough one. That's one for the all22 guys lol

I agree about K.. honestly, he's proven me wrong since the day he came here.. He's developed into a very good player who I also believe that he's our BEST blitzer from the secondary..

but, we'll both he and JV agree on a similar length and value of contract ??
Juice isn't going anywhere. We need him enough to pay him well, and there aren't many offenses in the league that utilize a FB like we do. Leaving the Niners would make no sense for either party.
Very rarely do i have any criticism for him. But that block on the QB keeper was bad. I get it, if it was wilson or any RB for that matter the block was good. But beathard was not outrunning the inside pursuit, he should have blocked the edge to give beathard a clean sideline and maybe another 5-6yds with no contact.

if he wants a boatload of money. with the holes we have on our team. dump him
Guy is fantastic. I've said this all throughout. But, does the team need another offensive weapon that to me doesn't get enough touches and is used mainly as a blocker or does it need a better Center, T. Williams, Hyder or Verrett more? I love him but like someone mentioned maybe go with a cheaper guy like Hokit.

i would rather have any of those guys on our team if it came to that than juice. the want for a fullback is not as great a need as the need for those four guys you mentioned in my opinion
49ers need to bring him back or every phase of the offense is going to regress.

Wait wait wait.... the guy is the best FB but if what you said is true, then we need to find another coach that wont rely on a FB for the offense to work..

I still think that for the money he got, he was NOT used correctly...
