Yup, the more ways you have to spread the ball around, the less chance a defense has to know what you are doing. Good guy, good signing.
The greatest part about having a FB that can play multiple positions is the games you can play with the defense in regards personnel groupings. You can show base personnel in the huddle and if the defense matches up you can now exploit that by either unraveling coverage by motioning the FB or if it's a positional win exploit that mismatch. If he in fact fills this OW role we are in really good shape.

Hyde is a better RB than Gore right now, the injuries while unfortunate dont take away from how well he has played despite getting the hell beat out of him behind a poor run blocking OL and with garbage QB play.
The only reason you'd take Gore over Hyde at this point in their careers is entirely due to sentimental reasons.
