Brodie you took my post out of context some. It was more so a thought of missing a prime Gore a lil, like a salute for all those years. Not regretting him being gone now. I'm not worried about the current RB position. I think if Frank wanted to do so, and Shanahan says eff it as well... I'd take back Gore for this year and let him retire with us. Hyde,Gore and a RB like Hunt would be dope.

I was down for Hightower, guess we've got bigger plans?

Exactly. But, he would be playing passing downs for protection, making some catches too. Anyway the hof-er belongs here and it was a bad move to let him go.

When we were at our best, we let players leave before their performance declined. The most successful NFL franchise today does this as well.

What is really sad is just how low the 49ers had dropped in talent... More like plummeted to the bottom. From a very successful team to a bottom dweller takes some really bad skill and mismanagement.. The fact we are signing depth , almost across the board, tells you just how bad the baalke GM worked out. Basically looking at the guys not re-signed, there is only one, and that is Tiller...that Maybe could have stayed.. Dang that is a lot of outright mediocrity for one team. Not having an impact player (P-52, Justin) is one thing. Not having starters is another. But also, not even having decent back-ups is horrid. And that pretty well summarizes baalke's stint here..

Kudos to Shalyn for recognizing this was a droopy, awful collection of "talent", and doing what they could do early on in FA to see if they could bring the talent level of backups and non-starters up to where it should be. Hence the lengthy list of guys who are now unemployed and many still have no shot at getting a job in NFL. Also the caliber of guys brot in is already a huge improvement on this team which looked, for all intents and purposes, like the loser it was. You gotta start somewhere, and getting legitimate and solid backups is a good way to go. The OUCH signing was from out of nowhere, necessitated by salary cap issues. Awful nice Kyle and especially Lynch were on the insta-dial for John Harbaw. That was a bona fide upper tier signing, and a perfect fit for Kyle's O. A huge get, to go along with bringing up the lowly talent level on the team.

We are filling in depth and getting role players but we needed some impact splash players at some impact positions.

I still like "OUCH" as in "OW"

Fracture king also had more fumbles and fewer receptions.

Fracture King was playing with two QBs that arent on any roster currently instead of with Andrew Luck. I imagine fewer receptions has a tad bit to do with that. I think its safe to say that he'll get far more frequent use as a receiver this season.

Fracture king ranked top 6 in the NFL in DVOA and DYAR. He ranked third in yards after contact. Old faithful didnt register in the top 10 in any of those categories.

He belongs here only for sentimental reasons. If anything the 49ers need to get younger and more explosive at the position and this draft is loaded with RB talent.

You can't turn back the clock on Gore and make it 2006 again, sometime very soon the bottom is going to fall out, he's already at an advanced age for RBs and will be 34 by the start of this upcoming season.

Jacksonville hasbeen trying the "splash player" approach for a decade. Hasnt worked so good.

I'm pretty pleased that Shanahan and Lynch didnt go nuts in FA, brought in some smart, useful veterans and guys who know the offensive and defensive schemes to help kick things off.

It appears that they will be building primarily through the draft which I think is the best way to go. This isnt a one or two year rebuild, it will take some time and thus far theyve approached it pretty wisely.

could've just brought back Bruise on the cheap. first lynch mistake.

Juszczyk is a better player in every way.

Besides I don't think the ankle bracelet would let him make it to the team facility anyways.
This absolutely the best fit for for him and his skill set. If we can draft a Curtis Samuel in the 2nd round thats an instant nightmare matchup.

You come out with I formation personnel and the defense brings in their base defense. With the right personnel we can show run and line up our RBs at WR. If they come out in a nickel we run it down their throat. A little game within the game. Kyle is the perfect weapon in that he doesn't tip off run or pass like a typical FB.

Well that's jax not the niners. A splash player here and there would certainly help a lot. Maybe they won't be as good as they were on our team compared to their previous team but that does not mean it wouldn't work out well for the niners. We now have better coaches and a better gm already. Look at the raiders look at the giants. They got a few splash players and it put them over the top from mediocrity. The niners are below mediocre but a great fa would help us win more games easily.

A few more games is meaningless when you are basically at rock bottom. Another year of high draft picks will do more for this team overall in the long-term.

I think they were pretty smart in how they approached FA, bringing in a bunch of guys that know the scheme, filling in crucial roles on offense at WR and FB along with LB and DT on defense.

The added depth and experience is going to go a long way when combined with some of the young talent on the roster and the players to be added through the draft.
