Why do you expect him to carry or receive that much? Fullbacks rarely ever do. He's just gonna be doing all the dirty work for us like Pat Dimarco. In 2 years with Shanny he had 20 receptions and 0 carries. So less than a reception a game. And he was a pro bowler in 2015.

They didnt bring him here to be a pat dimarco.

He will be used more than just a fb

I doubt they paid him that much just to lead block. He should get some plays drawn up to get him the ball. That's not what Shanahan did with DiMarco but he better with Juice to justify that contract. If Juice mainly lead blocks and ends up with 25 catches, that's a waste imo. He can do some good things with the ball in his hands on catches. I'm guessing 35-40 catches. He probably won't get many carries.

Look for him to used a lot with fb screens

I agree. I think it's a given he will catch 40-50 passes but I also think he will carry the ball a little more than some people expect. I can see him getting 5-8 carries a game. I am excited about having him on our team and I think he was a heck of a pickup. We had to outspend Buffalo to get him so if we had to overpay a little, so what. We have the cap room and needed a player like Juice in this offense and on the team!

I think he's gonna be the FB/Big back/H-back type of guy. He will lead block as a fullback in 20/21/22/23 personnel. He can be a big back in 11/12/13 personnel and can be an H-back in twin or 3 TE sets. I think they find a way to get him 40+ catches and at least 25-30 carries this year.

All this
Good points fellas
Tom Rathman at the height of his career, 5 year period averaged 48 catches. Bar None, 31.

I put the bar for Juice around 40 receptions.
This obviously is more a coincidence than anything intentional, because the Niners have a completely different FO now, but I realized Juice is actually what the former regime thought Jerryd Hayne could turn into. They were just too stupid to know you couldn't realistically take someone from a different sport and turn him into a quality football player, no matter what his athletic prowess.

This Moreso they didn't pay him $21 million to be DiMarco. They could have just actually signed DiMarco for a lot less money.

Juszczyk is a much more versatile, much better overall player than DiMarco. He'll get plenty of burn as a receiver.

At the absolute pinnacle of the FB use in the passing game (Walsh from '83-87 with Roger Craig) we averaged 72 catches a year with the FB.
I want him to make good reads and pick up blitzes when appropriate, and to leak into the flat to beat the blitz when appropriate. I want teams to be afraid to blitz when he is on the field. The number of catches or carries is not as important to me. If he picks up blitzes, and blocks well, Shanny will throw him a bone, and call plays for him.

I saw that...Rathman had 73 catches in that one year. Insane!
This is such a weapon...and we had no FB last yr. What a waste. Don't know if we see 72 FB receptions this yr but we ARE going to see a bunch. Sure going to make D's take note and quit putting 8, 9 or 10 guys on LOS. Loading the box is going to be costly for teams trying that this yr. How badly have we needed the right HC and GM for the last 17 yrs?

Well, REALLY badly. But now we got 'em. This is our turn around yr even without a FR QB. Can't wait for PFF to eat its words on us as 32nd D in the league.(front 7)

Juice was on the field for 70% of BAL's special teams snaps. I wonder if the 49ers will expose their OW to special teams.
