He is a lot like Brent Jones to me. A big bodied Wide Receiver.
Very good! Brent Jones was a good tight end for us. So was Russ Francis, John Frank and Charlie Young. Tight Ends in the WCO is really a critical cog. We get that right, we have a big component of the WCO in place.

If he can step up we can move the ball down the field.

He along with DJ Jones were 2 out of 5 players on Zeirleins list of rookies that pretty much will out perform the round they were drafted in and are sleepers for the 2017 season to be productive.

Brent Jones...all i remember is if the ball was anywhere near him it just stuck to him. IF kittle is in that category we will be fine. Not having seen much of him, i just don't know. But anyone that reminds of Brent ...must be pretty decent hands guy. I think McD stays, and i like him starting with his terrific blocking. If he has an accurate passer, I think he will have an excellent yr. So with Hoyer, i bet we see Vance do well. With Gab and the other guy attempting to play Qb, it made any receiver look bad. Neither Qb last yr could hit the broadside of a barn...even if they were inside it.

Personally, when Mike Shanahan was OC in 1994, he treated Brent more like a WR. I think he went out on more pass routes and fake blocked, than even block that year. I remember maybe a couple of position blocks he did in 1984 but that's it. That offense was the pre-curser of the Greatest Show on Turf, in my opinion. Every receiving position had a high speed throughbread, and a QB that could knock out a fly with the football at 50 yards. Kyle's H-Back/Offensive Weapon is, to me, the more traditional TE position. Juszczyk - to me - is the *real TE* in Kyle's offense. The way Vance makes the team is if he shows Kyle he's a good receiver - that's why I think they tried to trade him. His past history shows Kyle that's he's not a natural receiver that can catch a BB in a snow storm.
George Kittle reminds me a lot of Brent.

Nice post, Giedi. I agree, tho, that Vance stays or goes based on his receiving attributes. His blocking is non-pareil. With hoyer we'll see how he does. Personally i think wiht WCO and hoyer, our Qbing is going to be fine this yr. Also agree that the Juice is going to be a frequent target. Not that vance would be cut, but that a trade would happen if kyle and john decide he isn't that hot a receiver. I think he will do fine with an accurate QB for the first time in 2 yrs., but TC and PS will dictate that.

I agree his blocking skills are excellent. But shifting from the Bo-Shembechler run first Harbaugh offense to the Kyle pass first offense will hurt Vance. If they trade him, it's got to be to a team that runs similar run first offenses like what Harbaugh had on our super bowl run. I think Kittle is going to have an advantage in making the team because CJ was his quarterback in College. They know each other so well, I think in pre-season, both will shine and I think if Kyle allows them to run some of the plays they ran in Iowa, Kittle should be dominating the stats in the 3rd or 4rth quarters against undrafted free agent level talent.

I wonder with Kittle being a good blocker.. if they've asked Vance to drop weight cause he won't be doing as much blocking and want to get him as agile and explosive as possible.

I got a feeling he's gonna be a nice gem. I fore see him having some nice matchups and going under the radar for some sneaky good gains.

I haven't heard that they requested him to lose weight. My own view is that I'd like him to stay strong and at the weight he's been playing at and just worry about developing those hands. The Play Pass is a big part of the WCO, and if you have a good blocker like him that will scare the defenses to play honest and not cheat, that's a big advantage to Kyle's passing attack. Where the WCO get's in trouble is when the LB's don't buy the play action pass, and start sitting in the short zones and making those passing windows very small. New Oreleans - when New Orleans was still in the NFC West - gave Montana headaches because their linebackers were so quick. They would totally buy the play action fake, but would get back so quick, they'd knock down the pass to his receivers.

I can't wait to see this kid take the starting TE role...his ceiling and potential can make him the next great 49er TE

Yeah, was just thinking in terms of perhaps they'll be flexing out Vance at times to open up the box and put LBs one on one etc. I think Vances weight is just fine as well, he's pretty jacked and really doesn't seem to have hardly any fat to legitimately lose.
