Kittle is probably the only modern day player that would survived the old school style of football 20-30 years ago. His toughness is something else. Glad he's a Niner!

Yeah gonna have to disagree with that. I love Kittle but old school football guys couldn't handle the speed and strength of most current NFL players. I mean look at Dick Night Train Lanes first season to see what happens when true speed gets introduced to the NFL.

i was watching some "old school" football niner games from the 80s and honestly i wasn't impressed in terms of them being "tougher"
fans way over exaggerate things. players today are plenty tough as ronnie lott, lawrence taylor, etc.

If a TE is ever to win an MVP award, it would be Kittle.

I think the toughness is more a function of the rules as opposed to what players can and can't take. The rules don't allow for much and players are trained to look for flags. But if guys like Ronnie Lott or Jack Tatum were allowed to patrol the middle of the field the way they did 30 to 40 years ago, some receivers would emerge as the top wideouts or tight ends.

after that patriots colts playoff game, they started making it tougher for defenses to defend the pass. that's just a rule change. the players are just as tough, if not tougher, bigger, faster, smarter, etc.

Ronnie Lott has a finger removed in order to play a football game. Jack Youngblood taped up his broken leg to play in the NFC championship and Superbowl. I think its the play at all costs mentality that the old timers had that gives the impression of toughness. Kittle had a rib fracture during the Raider game last year, kept playing and finished the season with it. To me its things like that which separate many of the old school guys and current players.

5th round pick to best TE in the world... nobody called it. shocked me, I thought Cole Dirty Martini was our future. my bad.
Kittle, props to him and his hard work, and the scouting dept for throwing a dime in the 5th round.
