People will point to his production on select games. But he's an average TE through and through. You can plop any middling TE into this offense with Garoppolo and he'd do just as well as Kittle. He isn't Kelce, nor Gronk. He's not above average. He's just a dude. I hope he can get his hands right. This was an issue last year. We need an upgrade here in the offseason.

How can anyone say he's average? One of the top statistical performances of any rookie tight end last year while battling injuries and it wasn't just because of Jimmy.
First game in year two and he has almost 100 yards. Was missed by Jimmy wide open in the end zone. And the "drop" on second look could be argued as an overthrow. Even still, those things happen. Even Gronk doesn't haul in 100 percent of plays like that one. To bash him and say he's average after his first game in year two -- a productive one at that where he led the team in catches and yards -- and considering all other facts, just seems wildly premature.. But that's just me..

No he's not Gronk or Kelce, I don't think anyone here has said that, but he's still a good player that produced enough to lead the team in yards in game 1, and put himself in position to make a few more explosive plays had Jimmy took a little off on some of those throws. Although two of those chances I'd give more credit to the play design.

Completely agree. You just watch and you can see Kittle's talent - he's got a lot of tools, including speed and very good athletic ability. He does need to improve his hands and I'm betting that will definitely come as he progresses. Yes, he should have had the long throw from Jimmy (on slow-mo it looked like he closed his hands too soon - just misjudged it...would have been a long gain but not a TD as the safety was coming over with a good angle). On the play in Q4 in the end zone, he made a very good move on Harrison and was open - the play was there for a TD - but Jimmy was just a little high on the throw. I did a frame-by-frame with my DVR on that play and it would have been a spectacular catch to go up that high and bring it down. Does he need to keep improving? Yes, but I like what I'm seeing so far in Year 2.
