Truly don't understand any rationale here other than a camp body. He's injury prone, he's a crappy returner...list goes on.

Why does it need to be any deeper than that? He knows the offense, he has return ability, he's coming cheap, I don't see the downside.

"I don't see the downside"

That's all I see. But if we're playing that game…
what's the upside?

There isn't any. McCloud is a better returner.

McCloud is also 2-3x more expensive. I doubt trent even makes the team he's just insurance at this point.
championship!
Hope the new plan for Punt Returns is to just Fair Catch all of them.

The missing piece to help us finally get over the hump.
He most definitely had his moments but I don't feel this moves the needle one iota. I'm reality it's probably not really meant to.

The new plan should be to scream "GTFO of the way!" just as the punter launches the punt. Then maybe punts won't hit dudes on the ankle to cause costly turnovers.
So now we have somebody who can catch a punt instead of fumbling like #10? Is that the plan?

We could just stick no one back there and go all out each time to try and block the punt. The probability of returning a punt for a TD is probably equal to that of a successful all out rush to block the punt.

If we had done that 2 months ago we'd be talking about Questfor7 right now.

Not only that, but what is the average reward for a punt return, 5 to 10 yards gained… give me the every blue moon punt block instead.

Yah I don't know think Trent Taylor is good as a punt returner. Hope they aren't done adding punt and kick returners. I was hoping for Hunter Renfrow or someone on par with Ray Ray.

The Niners do this every off-season. They pick up cheap free agents at positions of need. They'll go after a big ticket free agent on the first day or two most of the time but after that it's all about filling the needs.

Now they can go into the draft and not feel like they must pick a certain position because it's not filled. It's the same every year.

Great approach IMO
