Well, it doesn't matter which Guernsey they wear tbh, it's how they play and if they win that counts.

This will actually be the 6th year in a row wearing the all white throwbacks at Seattle. Hopefully the winning in that hellhole of a stadium continues!

Also, I think it is great we're wearing the 94 reds vs dallas

I feel the same way. The Niners regular uni is way more classic than those throwback uniforms. They never actually wore the red jersey, white pants, gold helmet combo. The Niners classic uni should be the ones they wore in the 80s when they terrorized the league. If they really want a throwback they should wear red helmets with silver stripe.

The silver helmets would be better than the gold but if they want to go all the way back to the beginnings then they go with the red helmets. I'm partial to those red helmets that they wore from 1953-1956 because that's when I started following the team.

The current uniform color scheme is still the best. The gold helmets are in keeping with the 49er gold rush theme.
One little throwback note. I heard Gordy Soltau's son this morning on KNBR. For those of you too young to remember Gordy was one of the 49ers early great kickers. I learned something about him this morning that I didn't know. He was one of the original Navy frogmen in WW2 . He participated in some real hairy escapades. These are the guys that eventually became the Navy Seals.

Wow, sixth year in row wearing them in Seattle - lost track but yes, going back to the Garoppolo years.

'94 throwback reds vs. Dallas…brings back some GREAT memories!

I get that it'd be more "accurate", but imo the plain red helmets (with a gray/silver stripe) leave much to be desired aesthically-wise…the team would look too much like a college team (think: Alabama or Oklahoma) or even worse, the Chiefs if they took the field and forgot to stick on their helmet decals.

The silver helmets, apart from obviously the helmet shell color being silver instead of gold, would at least look recognizably "49ers" with the red oval "SF" logo and red-white-red helmet striping, especially when viewed from afar or on TV, if they were paired with the '94 throwbacks…the same can't be said of they wear plain red helmets.

Silver helmets? Nope. I still want them to have real gold on them ala Notre Dame.
49ers don't wear silver helmets. They are GOLD!

Hard to imagine that the 49ers who are so recognizable by those red jerseys and gold helmets have worn so many different combos. They were always changing around in the early years. Red helmets with silver stripe. Solid white helmets. Silver with red stripes. Solid gold. Finally they got to where they are now. Same for pants. White pants. Silver pants. Different shades of gold. The only thing that's stayed fairly table are the red jerseys. Different numerals and striping but always red. Except of course the road jerseys.

I guess in the early years the team was trying to find its identity. Now they do it for marketing reasons.

You must also remember for most of the team's first 2 decades (from like 1946 to probably 1965) photos, films and TV were mostly black and white, so they weren't necessarily concerned with distinctive team colors or designs, just uniforms that would differentiate them from the other team (many games in this era BOTH teams wore dark jerseys). It was only after the "Greatest Game" between the Giants and Colts in 1958 that TV broadcasts of pro football games captured the national attention and from then on you started seeing helmet logos, smaller numbers on the shoulders, white "road" jerseys, and after the AFL became a rival league, player names the back of jerseys...then when color TV became more widespread after 1965 most of the distinct "classic" look of all the pro teams became established.

This actually looks good because it sort of matches the pale/flat gold helmets we wore in 1994. And until 1996 (I could be wrong but I believe that's when we got that sparkly shiny gold finish)
