On the topics of pure confusion, here's one for you...a Grant Cohn article posted in a negative spin thread BUT on 20 positive points about the 49ers.

Most of the people who have responded to my posts try to slot me in some imaginary "camp". It's either I wanted Trubisky in the draft (shudder), or McDaniels for HC (horror!). In fact, McDaniels would be as risky as Shanahan Jr. He is another "genius". I distrust all those geniuses. Yeah, yeah, Walsh was a genuine one, but he was the exception. More often you have an arrogant, overpromoted coordinator in the Mangini/McDaniels/Kelly mould. They were geniuses too (Mangeniuses in one case). The arrogance is really the main problem I have with the SB choke job. When we effed up in the SB it was dreadful execution. When Seattle picked an idiotic call in their SB loss it was just being too clever by half - trying to not do the obvious thing. But they were just one (or a couple) of brain farts. Atlanta's implosion last year was not an abberration but the result of arrogance: things were looking dangerous, their defence was gassed beyond gassing, but STILL they refused to run the clock out with runs up the middle for no gain, even when they were in FG range, and even when they got breaks their way with NE turnovers. They were clever. They would keep passing, They were geniuses, dammit!
Look, this is the pessimism thread. The forum is full of kool aid ones, some of which I like and enjoy. Of course I want the team to prove me wrong. What do I care if I'm proven wrong in an internet forum if the team win?
For the record, so that people don't try to slot me in imaginary "camps" from now on:
Of all the available HCs, Shanahan was probably the best and I was happy that we got him. If he had refused it would be yet another signal that we are toxic beyond toxicity. I am less comfortable with giving him the keys to the building for the next decade (or what seems like it), but I guess he wouldn't come to work for the wonder duo of Jed/Paraaaaag otherwise. But I fear the arrogance of "genius", the "my way or the highway" approach that is so often the "genius" style. I think that getting Walsh 2.0 is very unlikely, simply because Walsh 1.0 was such a lottery win. It's more likely that we get Jets Mangenius 2.0. Or Kelly in Philly, Year 2. Not super likely. But likelier.
Lynch was out of left field, but frankly I hardly knew the other suits that were promoted as potential GMs. I had no GM horse in the running. He seems like a good egg so far. Much better than Baalke - less arrogant for one.
Any of the QBs in the draft made me sick in my mouth at the thought of drafting them. I was a Thomas fanboi. Last year I was a Buckner one (look my posts up if you wish, although I don't post much).
I have been fearing about Bowman's health for some time. I am also a huge fan of his. He is the man. He is also a badly injured man.
Then what's the problem? We got the guy that you stated was the best option available and got the guy you wanted in Solomon plus avoided the top end QBs....I get it this is the woe is me thread, but compared to the s**t we've had the past two yrs this staff seems to have an idea. That's not a kool-aid comment either, I'm being completely objective. No one in their right mind thought we had anything positive going on once harbs was sent packing.
Why can't he be mike shanahan 2.0, why does he have to be compared to bill Walsh? I don't see how chip Kelly is even remotely relevant to kyle? Kyle runs a pro-offense that been around for a long time, there's proven success with that scheme. Go look back at Kyle's resume as a OC everywhere he's gone he's improved the offense. We will see what he brings to the table as a HC, but coaches and players alike have said he was meant to be a HC and we're seeing players that want to come play for him for a reason.

Oh, and I forgot to mention again our genius coach had the greatest choke job in the history of the SB, and the second worst in the history of the playoffs only after Houston's collapse vs Buffalo. And that our great hope for redemption is that an overrated former teacher's pet in the NFL's second most dysfunctional franchise will choose the NFL's most dysfunctional franchise next offseason as the source for his exorbitant contract who will cripple their cap space for years. Woo-hoo! I feel full of hope.
GREAT POSTS Paulk205! Keep posting!
But it wasn't the greatest choke job...Pete in Seattle was the biggest choke job or Scott Norwood in buffalo come to mind.
It's funny fans get all butt hurt when "their" draft picks or coaches dont get the job, like we all know more than an NFL organizations.

He clearly justifies his opinions which I appreciate.
Yes, to your point, I agree the Seacocks and buffalo definitely were chokes.
I personally wouldn't call the Falcons SB a "choke".
Kyle kept the pedal to the metal trying to kill the pats, and it didn't work. That's all.
Originally posted by jeepzilla:Btw, I can't stand McDanials at all. I feel he is over rated. He's got a 15 year (Or however many years now) experienced qb who's gone to multiple SB's and he's got bellaCheat beside him AND he's got a stellar defense every year to lean on.
And full disclosure, I wanted and was happy we got Kyle.. I'm hoping and I believe kyle will have success. I'm hoping they keep the defense shored up while they bring the offense up to speed.
If we get Kirk, great.. and if we get Kirk and use a 1st pick on another qb in 2018 draft, great again..
Then I hope they get pass rushers, o-line, corners, then wide receiver.

Yea funny how in one circumstance it was Kap's & Jim's fault in our loss, but in Atlanta's loss, it was clearly the patriots just stepping up at the right moment and Kyle called everything right! Lol
What's also funny is how these FQB's are the save all for the teams in some people's eyes.
Flacco, Rivers, Carr now, Luck, Kirk now, etc how has that worked out for those teams, lol
Don't get it twisted now, it takes a quality qb to "help" your team win, but It still takes a whole team, especially a defense...
Brady's defense has been ranked how high in all his SB years? Look it up.. pretty high..
And brady, who got the qb job because Bledsoe got lit up wasn't this great qb... it took years for him to develop, behind what??? A Stellar defense each year!
And Bellacheat put brady in due to bledsoes injury so it's not like Bellacheat had this great foresight to put brady in.
And Bledsoe was playing at a pretty high level.. wasn't Bledsoe considered a "FQB".
Quality qb play and stellar defense's give the best chance to win, and win big.
Where to begin with this...
1. Our team was WAY more talented than the Ravens in 2012 and we got our asses handed to us in the first half. That shows a major sign of being unprepared to face a lesser talented team coached by the guy he knew incredibly close.
2. Nobody said Kyle called everything right but that offense was nearly impossible to stop due to Kyle's playcalling and the players on that roster. This is arguably one of the better offensive playcallers in the game with one of the best offenses in the league squaring up against one of the best defensive coaches in the game. However blaming Shanahan for choking away the SB is incredibly dumb when the team had a 28-3 lead that they blew. How you can blame the offensive coordinator for that is beyond me...
3. If you find that elite QB you will have a chance to get into the playoffs every season. Yes you need a good team or one guy isn't doing much but to win a SB with a mediocre QB you need studs pretty much everywhere else. What's easier to do build a decent team around a great QB or build a great team around a decent QB? Simple math there...1 vs 21. And I'd say Ravens are pretty happy with Flacco and the SB he won them. Rivers hasn't had much help and Carr is looking great.
4. Brady has won with pretty much every team put around him. His defenses have not been THAT impressive. You want to see a QB with crazy defenses? Check our very own Joe Montana.
5. Brady showed enough his rookie season to be kept on the roster as a 4th QB. Want to tell me how often teams keep 4 QBs on the roster with that 4th QB being a 6th round pick? Obviously he showed something to Belichick(Bellacheat...really? What are you 5?) and it takes balls to keep a guy like that on the roster and cut someone at another position.
6. Brady led the league in TDs his second season starting with scrubs to throw to. The idea that it took him years to develop is just inaccurate. The first season the Pats actually made it a point to get him some weapons he broke all sorts of passing records and was one miracle play by Eli and the Giants away from winning his 4th SB with a perfect record.
You final point is accurate. It's difficult to win games if you don't have a good team and especially a good defense but everything above that point is supremely flawed.
