Wow, I didn't know we are that close to catching the 45 from last year.
Sounds like Mitchell and Azeez will still be out. I didn't know Azeez has a history of elbow issues. Shocker.

"He's been through some of these elbows. He did that in college. He did the other one earlier this year. So, we've just got to see how it reacts, and we'll give him all the way up to kickoff. He hasn't gotten there yet but [he's] still got a couple more days."

Feels like he's been wearing that sling ever since he came here

Well, he's got two now.
Wow, Mitchell and Greenlaw out (and for multiple weeks) and Azeez unlikely. Wonderful.

Who said greenlaw is out multiple weeks? I know he wasn't optimistic about Mitchell vs TEN

Hasn't been said about Greenlaw but it's safe to assume, him being a 49er and all

Sorry, meant Mitchell out multiple weeks but yeah, I'd expect Greenlaw too if I'm guessing.

They'll need Mitchell and Azeez @ TEN. Shouldn't need either vs ATL but we will see.
Jesus Christ we just can't catch a f**kin break can we. Whose next???

I concur. 1 guy back, 2 guys out. It's the Niner way.

Also for all of the short sighted people that claim every team has injuries (while neglecting the fact some teams have way more than others)..........

The niners are LEADING THE NFL AGAIN in most missed snaps from starters . Then again, this shouldn't be a surprise, except to the usual people that try to downplay our injuries and think we aren't a contender without them.

Agree. I'm thinking Kyle's stuck with these injury issues - due to his offensive designs. (and in general, the NFL is a violent sport, and players *will* get injured, not if)

I advocate maybe changing the draft and player acquisitions to just account for the fact that we'll be the most injured team in the NFL for the foreseeable future. I mean 8+ years on, come on, might as well go with the flow. In addition to drafting and acquiring players with no medical issues:

1) Draft for depth not quality.
2) Acquire Free agents for depth not quality.
3) Really beef up the coaching staff to deal with coaching up said depth to possibly upgrade them to hopefully players of higher quality. (For Example: I like the ShanaLynch move of having two assistant OLine coaches to the OLine coach Foerster, to coach up the OLinemen) But do that to pretty much all of the rest of the positions coaches.

I'd do as much as possible to acquire a lot of draft picks to just simply add bodies to the team. Now, of course you do your damndest to scout each pick and make the best pick you can out of (lets say) a fifth round pick. But you also have maybe two or three fifth round picks instead of just one. You already know the injuries are going to occur - and lets say RB is a critical part of Kyle's offense - just add (for next year, for example, another two draft picks at RB plus another Undrafted Free Agent pick up again at RB). You have multiple draft picks because you've traded down to acquire more draft picks.

I'll use the '86 draft as a model. Walsh had 13 draft picks that year. He used it to build depth -- and to a certain extent he let the cream rise to the top. In other words, just add numbers and see which players rise to the challenge of becoming an NFL player. He got some pretty good depth players from that draft.

The Idea is that I'd rather have three good running backs vs 1 outstanding running back, and two average running backs. Let the coaching wizardry (both offense and defense) win you the game vs relying on an outstanding talent, but the risk is outstanding talent will be injured, and his backup sucks.
Like Eric Davis just said on his podcast, "When we need them most, they aren't there."

God, isn't this the truth.

So many guys not on I.R. not playing regularly either (i.e. Mitchell, Greenlaw, Moseley, Hurst, Johnson, etc.).
