I posted this on Thurs, but not here. It was from an article in WSJ, Thurs edition about the Rams and their computer assisted following of all their players, which has led them to be the healthiest team in the NFL since arrival of McVay and a new S & C coach. Basically it is the same program we have seen on other athletes, multiple body parts are tagged and then followed via computer . Basically they are treating injuries before they happen , thanks to info the computer prints out. Won't go into it more than that but check out WSJ article from last Thurs.

I would love to see us do something like that because whatever we are doing…isn't working. For all I know our S & C guys have a program like that too…but if so, i've never heard a peep about it. Check it out.

Now this is why this thread really exists...a platform to track and talk about health theories, strategies, philosophies, league-wide trends, etc.

Great stuff Doc!

Feel free to post the link. I'd love to read it!

For anybody who has complaints about our injuries, HERE is the way to counter that…at least , that is what the Rams have been doing to be at the top of fewest games lost per player per team. This looks to be a really well thot out way to keep your guys in good health and it is based on seeing guys routinely when they are healthy once all joints, bones, cartilage, tendons and muscles are marked and digitized They actually are following their players before injury and do it on a routine (weekly??) basis.

No, I have never heard of this before in football, but know it works for runners, swimmers, and other athletes who use the same formula. It makes sense, but i would like to see it for awhile with S & C guys familiar with the technique, and then see if we can't get off the bottom of the pile as for games lost by players due to injury. Oops, that should be "out of the TOP spot of games lost by players AGL.

I love the open barbershop tactic too. For dudes taught extreme toughness, this is a cool way to get them to relax and be honest about those injuries.

So you only read that first, free portion of the article?

Injuries are League wide my left nut. Some teams are consistently way more injured than others and the niners are consistently at the top of the list. Not just starters BUT good and great starters

RB injuries

can we maybe now blame that on the running style of 9ers

teams like Tennessee and colts can run Derek Henry and Jonathan Taylor 400+ times without any injury for over a year but 9er RBs for past 5 years seem to be dinged and injured with regularity and can barely string together few healthy games let alone full year

is the running scheme to blame ?

What about the 9ers scheme is so different from there's that causes the injuries?

Maybe it's as good as any place to start looking. Maybe the body-types that Shanahan is specifically looking for when considering his offense....who knows? Maybe it's just s**t luck. Whatever it is, it's a joke the amount of injuries the backfield has seen....and it's not just a Niner thing either.

I'll say this. Today's NFL is a mess when it comes to injuries, and I've lost a lot of interest in the game because of it. It's simply flat out ridiculous to see the 'torn pec/quad/bicep' injury that practically never happened just a few decades ago, to a point where full seasons are lost. The players are too big/fast/strong for their own good, and I'm not interested in watching games in Week 2 that are already missing most of their units (Tampa and their receiving corp. as an example). The torn ACL is another laughable one. It's a good thing the medicinal world has greatly advanced where these players can come back as quick as they can, but the fact is that there are far more tears because of the size and speed the players have. They're putting a lot more stress on tendons and ligaments, and something has to give.

As a fan, I'm close to giving up. It's stupid that I go into every game....EVERY game knowing somebody will get 'hurt' and miss weeks, if not months or the year. I look into 49er news for basically one thing - to see who is hurt. For a lot of fans, they just see that as 'fooball' but it wasn't always like this.

I was looking forward to watching Lance this year and see how he progressed. His injury is different....that to me was a real football injury....but now he's got another 'wasted' year and with Garoppolo's injury history, SF is just a play away from Brock Purdy.

Yeah, how much evidence did Kyle need at RB to think maybe running his QB in the same fashion into the front 7, was not the best idea?

It's not like every defense isn't gearing up to play heavy run defense against Kyle's scheme. That's magnified even more with Trey and his volume of rushes inside since arriving to the NFL under Kyle. Seattle knew they'd get their shots at blasting a QB in a box with no room to slide or real option to protect yourself. If not Seattle, it was just a matter of time, IMHO.

I don't think Trey's type of straight-ahead mobility was what fans had hoped for. I think they hoped for more lateral speed to extend off script plays, lateral speed to run off tackle and beat defenders to the edge, pocket quickness, strength to shrug off would-be sacks, play action, rolling protections, etc. Most we didn't get to see or he doesn't have that kind of mobility.

1. Volume
2. Complexity
3. Predictability

IMHO, of course.

While watching games yesterday it seemed like they were showing an awful lot of teams listing players as out for todays games. Buffalo has 4 defensive starters out with one out for the season. This after 2 games.

I heard some rumors that the league may go back and revisit the restrictions placed on teams in training camps. The feeling is too many players aren't getting in proper shape.
