You're just never going to let this thread die are you

Ha. Well, TBF, we did shut it down. But the injuries kept coming so we reopened it.

Let's give it another shot, what's the worst that could happen? Our players are dropping faster than we can drop a deep ball over the middle.

Haha once it's halfway through page two,...NC's going to go bump this motherf****r every time
The Niners are losing a lot of starters to injuries. The backups seem to be staying healthier. I bring this up because the backups saw more action in the preseason. The 49ers barely played their starters during the preseason. It's not just my theory but several former players have said that these guys aren't in playing shape when the season starts. The Niners have been hit really hard on defense but many teams have lost key players. The league needs to take a long look at the rules that are limiting practice time and the effect of not having the extra preseason game.

I understand the caution but caution isn't working.Players are getting hurt just as much as ever.

Very true. All CBA stuff though.
Rather early season injuries to late season I guess.

Unfortunately, this is all NFLPA. Players are the ones that wanted shorter OTAs, PS, etc, and NFLPA delivered their "want list". This was a self inflicted injury, starting season wtih guys who were not physically ready for it. Their complaint initially was that they didn't want to play 4 PS games. So instead of getting that they got paid more money for PS games, and that was the start of the entire "not much physical contact" prior to season.

Basically, players got what they wanted, but long term, they are paying for it with all the multitude of injuries…and it ain't just us. Go from team to team and it is most teams have notable or substantial injuries.
Imagine having ONE season without having any major injuries
Does this team have a strength and conditioning staff? Because they are always the most injured team in the league.

100%

That's what I mean by , "Sooooooft!" It also explains the very slow starts and injuries right out of the gate annually. Or, at least it's a viable theory.

They have an NHL S&C team. Does that count?

I've been in this mindset for a long time. Seems like the less these guys practice, the less contact they have in practice, the more these guys are getting injuries, in particular soft tissue injuries, couple this with half the league plays on turf.

If we're going to talk about sheer fitness....imagine 15yrs ago or so where two-a-days we're still a thing.

Subtract the social media personalities and distraction, add those back, and there's really no way you were surviving practices like those without being more physically fit and more "ready" for game day.
Jaquaski Tartt did an interview on 95.7 about a month ago and he stated that the 49ers practices were a lot harder and their TC was much more difficult than the Eagles TC. Not sure if that adds anything but it does show that we probably have a relatively difficult TC compared to other teams.
Every year this team throws away the season on injuries. Healthy this is a formidable team.

This is the first season with ony 3 preseason games. In the past teams would play their starters for at least one full half and sometimes one full game. Usually the 3rd game so they could rest the starters in the 4th game and do final evaluations on the rookies. Teams had to alter their schedule this year and many teams didn't play the starters much if at all. On top of that, the nr=ew agreement doesn't allow as many padded practices.

All this adds up to less contact and less preparation. I've heard players say that game shape and physical shape are 2 different things. The human body isn't meant to take hits like they absorb in the NFL. It has to be conditioned to them.
