I wish I understood why we get so many key injuries year after year. Without the bull and without trying to slag off part or all of the FO or the rest of the team. Just hoping for an adult conversation.

It spans numerous years, regimes, schemes, players FOs, medical staffs etc..,,so as MB mentioned in his piece, this predates anything currently in my place.
It's gotten absurd though, almost makes you not want to get invested because you hist know major injuries are coming
Totally agreed. This goes back well before Kyle and this current regime.

You didn't show the construction crew digging up the 3 Indian Burial Grounds.

There's been some good theories in here going way back: scheme, player type for that scheme, overreliance on personnel for that scheme, NHL S&C team, team physicians, off season routine, etc.
It's a safe place in here......do you have any theories yourself?
Every time I think there may be an explanation, it gets shot down! The game has certainly changed a lot in general. When I first started watching, the O line of a successful team stayed broadly the same all season. And that would be why they were successful. Obviously players would come off for breathers, but a lucky team would start the same 5 for all 16 games. That is now unheard of for us, and I suspect for most teams. It's kind of odd, though, that a game where the rules are gradually being rewritten to protect the players produces more injuries now (I guess) than it used to. I saw the injury to Jeff Fuller, and I saw a game where a player, not one of ours, was spun in the air and received serious although not fatal spinal injuries, can't remember who he was. You don't see these sort of injuries nowadays, nor the Theismann-type injuries. Except for the very occasional Bryant Young-type.
Some of the injuries, like some concussions, happen because they are recognised now but previously a hard nosed coach told the player to man up and get back out there. And I am happy that these are being recognised and hopefully addressed. For all the 'turning it into flag football' comments I read, I don't want players to destroy their lives for my entertainment. But I have no idea why the 49ers seem to be at or near the bottom of the list for physical injuries for a decade now. Nothing has lasted unchanged in that time, that I can think of.
I don't even believe the football gods hating us for our historic successes theory. If this were true they would have nailed Tom Brady by now.

The 49ers were one of the most injured teams in the league in their final year at Candlestick Park, it's really when this nightmare truly started. Crazy that nobody remembers these details.

For awhile i had thot the Rams had a handle on injuries with their avant- gard, computer digitization of each player's body and then following them weekly and literally keeping them from getting hurt by diagnosing when the earliest sign of injury occurs.. welp, no mas.
Rams are not as beat up as we are but they are hurting as their IR shows. Changing S & C again, is a possibility, but where do you find a top flite S &C that hasn't had mega injuries? We got away from moneyball players , ie drafting or acquiring guys who had injuries…and then ..we took Kinllaw. Hmmm.
Some have suggested it might be our OZ run game, and maybe that's a part of it, wiht big OL guys runnings sideways instead of upfield in a North
south line. But we have DLs, CBs, OL, Ss, QB, RBs, WR, TEs injured. Hell we got everybody and every position injured.
i guess I'm more like English who wonders WTF happened to us. I'm in favor of digitization, but right now, it really doesn't seem like that is an answer either. As someone with a science and medical background, it is embarrassing to not have any good ideas.

Well, it's official! We have been in the top 10 most injured teams EVERY YEAR for the last decade according to football outsiders, we are the most injured team of the decade. (according to adjusted games lost to injury) So enough with this every team has injuries b******t. Nobody is close to the 49ers. Just like this year we are first.

I felt so much pain in this great post. I appreciate the take and honesty!
