This is the first 3rd down SEA faced on the drive and they chose to pass.
Spot vs Cover3

AA facing a block from a RB, he'll toss the RB aside. Wilson looks to the Spot concept and I think AA is in the passing lane so Wilson doesn't pull the trigger to the flat route.

That's a hold.

AA easily gets by the RB but takes a bad angle to RW. Don't run at where he is, run at where you think he'll want to go. AA runs at where Wilson is and just like that he's gone.

That's a hold.

It's frustrating that this has been allowed to go on for so long in Seattle. It's like they operate on a different set of rules there.
If the scrape-exchange was the play-call, Thomas had no backside help from his outside linebacker. This wasn't the case. Thomas' assignment was to set the edge, not allowing Wilson to scramble outside. He failed time and time again. Four times to be exact.
Sorry for misusing this thread for my questions.
Could anyone explain to me whether the first sentece contradicts the second one? Perhaps, I still don't get the scrape-exchange. Wait, iirc, the backside DE crushes down the line (for the RB?) in a scrape-exchange whereas the OLB shuts down any lane for the RB (he scrapes to the area vacated by the backside DE), right?
Thus, the author thinks that scrape-exchange was NOT the call. Right? He assumes that Thomas should have shut down Wilson's runs.

I use Snag It.

There's a free trial then you can purchase it. I use it for other things besides football cutups so it was worth it for me. I just checked and apparently it allows for one purchase to be shared on multiple computers. Let me look into it and maybe I'll just give you my license key. For now, check out the free trial.

puush is better.

Here's the missed TD opportunity Thl talked about earlier. This is the kind of thing that's the difference in a game like this. It's 3rd down and 6 and Hoyer looks for the first down, not the touchdown.

Here, we're just going to run 2 deep crossers with a short in route. Hoyer's thinking that Seattle will play a soft 3 zone and he'll have Taylor open on the in. We have Goodwin in the slot up top and Kittle down below inside Garcon.

Seattle is in cover 3 "mable" on this play to the bottom. That means it's cover 3 zone with one side being in man -coverage on the outside corner, in this case, Sherman.

In "Mable" coverage the hook/curl defenders will often times carry the vertical route - on the trips side especially. When Breida motions out, Wagners motions for this call. So, Chancellor will look to carry the vertical route and Wagner will carry the out breaking route wherever it goes.

Here you see Wagner carrying the RB and Chancellor is eyeing and carrying the vertical TE route. Sherman is in man-coverage on Garcon. This allows the weakside hook/curl defender to watch for an in-breaking route.

What Hoyer needs to recognize is the Seattle is in "mable". So, he should know Chancellor is going to carry Kittle up the field and Sherman will cut off on Garcon's out route. This will open up a big hole in the coverage, he just has to anticipate it and climb the pocket.

Here, you see the 3 middle defenders are focused on the TE crosser and Goodwin is about to break free. Hoyer should be stepping up into a throw right here. Instead, he's locked on to a 1st down route and is looking for Taylor.

The ball should be coming out here and on it's way. Goodwin has gotten open and he'd walk in for a TD or Hoyer could've put air under it and led him into the endzone.

This is what the pocket looked like when Goodwin was just about to break free. If he steps up and makes that throw, it's a different ball game. Instead, it's a 4 yard sack credited against Staley.
Staley sucks at the most crucial times. hoyer need just a little more time

If Hoyer gets the ball out when he's supposed to then it doesnt matter. Staley gives enough time. your beloved QB is trash.

This is the keyframe right here when I thought the FS was flat footed and Goodwin was streaking across the field. The next pic you posted, Goodwin was already open and Hoyer was already about to get sacked. I can't tell what Hoyer's progression is on this play, but there's no doubt that the deep cross is later in the progression since deep crosses are late developing. I didn't think Hoyer gave Goodwin's route a chance by going to it (staying with it).

SEA isn't going to give big windows anywhere, especially the red zone. imo, Kyle called this play at the perfect time because the safety (Kam) was rotating down to a Hook zone, gets occupied by Kittles, and the area behind him is there to attack (yellow circle). If Hoyer lobs a pass to the bottom of the 'K' in "Seahawks" of the endzone, it's 6 points. Earl Thomas was flat footed.

nah, goodwin probably drops it. so doesnt matter.

Here's the play from post #32, the missed opportunity to Goodwin. It happens fast, so you gotta look at the keyframe posted by jd to see how it was possible to hit Goodwin. The defender being attacked here is Kam as he rotates to his Hook zone.

that domain is blocked at my work... what happened to photobucket??

At some point in the 2nd half, Kittles left the game (hip). This is the 3rd down where I'm sure many of us were "wth kind of playcall was that?". This was a 3rd & 9 and after failing to convert, the 49ers never got the ball back.
Same idea - pick play versus man coverage.

Hyde sets the pick for Celek to come underneath.

Maybe Kittles can make this play work, but nothing about Celek suggests he can RAC for the first down. So why have this throw designed for Celek?

Exactly...might have been a great pass to Hyde there if thrown in anticipation as they cross.

Are you sure? Dude averaged like 2 yards a carry in the preseason and Joe Williams is so much more talented. I know because the Webzone told me these things.

I was so pissed at that no call. He was held for a full 3 seconds there and that call could have been a drive killer going from 3rd and 1 to 3rd and 11 and we had them stopped on most 3rd and longs. I also think that non call have him confidence to run off tackle more...with success; where the rest of the game we contained him pretty well.

We're hating on his abilities coming from the edge. We want him playing the inside. This is exhibit 102938 of that argument. He can get around the edge but he can cause chaos inside.

He was in the backfield that entire TD drive...have to have someone else there too clean up. Willow just ran to the space every time.

He gets beat up so badly by the same 5 in his own thread, I can understand that. LOL

(gif below) Play from post #5. I feel as though RayRay blew this on a scrape exchange. Check out the play 2nd & 18 at 1Q 4:52 mark. Solly crashes down, but plays it half ass. RayRay scrapes over the top. Not the exact same situation, but very similar. This leads me to think that on this play below, RayRay should have scraped over the top.

The coach defense must responsible to do his job and tell RayRay must watch the Wilson first if he is rush. That's why. I know about defense easy for me.

I think this is what was supposed to happen on that 4th & 1 (scrape exchange with Solly and RayRay). DE crashes down to force the QB keeper, have a LB waiting for the QB on the edge.

That is exactly it.

I was yelling the coach defense was idiots in 2012 and 2013. Because coach defense don't study and dumb. He should watch to Wilson video games then he must do homework that Wilson alway rush.
