edit: saw a nice progression throw on a 3rd & 5.

If this wasn't in color, I would have sworn it was a silent film from the '20's

This is on CHI's first drive.
vs Cover1 Robber
Trubisky takes the snap and will look left to the two Curls. These two routes must be thrown on timing against man coverage or the window closes fast. He doesn't like what he sees.
Trubisky moves to his right. With a window open to the Dig, Trubisky doesn't pull the trigger.
Dumervil works his way around the RT and back to the QB for the sack.

Fangio opened up the 2nd half bringing some pressure with man coverage on 3rd downs. Like the play above with Trubisky looking at the Curls, JG has to throw to these Curls on good timing against man coverage.
vs Cover 1 blitz
The green dog blitz gets a free rush and JG can't step into his throw.
Goodwin very efficient coming to a stop and turn. +10

49ers play a lot of Cover3. One benefit of commonly playing a certain coverage is opposing offenses trying to bust it with certain concepts.
X Cross vs Cover3
Three level vertical stretch (high-low) known to bust Cover3.
Playaction to pull LBs up. As soon as Coyle and Foster see that it's a pass, they turn around to see if there is anything behind them.
Coyle matches the Crossing route from the X so that the Curl/Flat defender isn't stretched. Scramble for +4.

You see that in video games and say "that never works in real life". Gotta turn up the difficulty.

vs Fire Zone blitz
You can't see Celek (88) because he's lined up next to big Brown, but he's there.
Hyde identifies the blitzer and picks up the SS. Bourne's drag route draws up the blue LB for Celek to work the area behind the LB.

That's just so good.....As soon as the LBer takes the drive, the deep route becomes avail. It's a great concept and it takes a nice throw to hit that. You can wrap this up in so many different ways and Kyle has shown that drive is one of his favorite concepts.
pretty much a basic vertical stretch is it not?

On that Pin concept. Nice example of him hitting the back foot and firing the ball. Late motion by Juice to get the LBs peaking at the backfield, thinking run play. Trust the concept to earn separation. Trust the accuracy.
he's been here for only how many weeks??? and has that kind of timing with this new team and offense? unbelievable

I felt underwhelmed by Trubisky and can see why we passed on him. He might turn out to be decent but he's gonna be a major project.Originally posted by thl408:jd, what'd you think of Trubisky? That was one i felt he got away with. I froze the frame when I watched it and the DB tried to jump the route before it was thrown but he lost his footing. If not, might've been picked.

Yeah, you put the weakside LB in conflict in a hi-lo situation. The only way to defeat this conceptbis to have your strongside LB match the in route or allow you free safety to drive on the in route - Seattle will do that from time to time. That's when shanny pairs the drive with the PIN so you get a full 3 level stretch down the middle. We did that early in the year and Hoyer missed Goodwin deep.
