Ok, well doesn't JG just throw the same route vs an overload blitz and the same concept going. He's not reading the defense, is he?

Here it's in the final 2 minutes of the first half and HOU wants to stop us from getting into scoring range. So, they're bringing a blitz to force the issue. We're going to have a bench concept going to the top with Celek and Breida. this time we have a "levels" concept going on with our receivers. HOU shows a cover 1 but then end up in a cover-0 whilst doubling the RB out to the flat(fool me once...you know how it goes)

You see HOU in man-coverage across the board with Breida doubled. The key here will be the cushion the FS gives on Robinson. This allows Robinson to turn his hips and he's able to get open.

Both of our in routes didn't have good leverage but Robinson did. Jimmy see's the blitz and - coverage, identifies the mismatch and once he sees the safeties hips turn he lets the ball loose.

Once again, found the only open guy out there for a nice 18+ yard gain with a free rusher coming at him.

This is why it's so important for a QB to keep his eyes downfield. He knows there's a rusher coming free but he kept his eyes down the field and saw the 0 coverage. He knew he had this route open if the safety turned his hips. He didn't panic and immediately throw the out to the RB which was doubled.

I love how he works slides slightly to his left then delivers a strike in the soft spot of the coverage. Puts us in FG range for a Gould kick.

Red and Yellow is a vertical stretch of the strongside curl/flat defender (24). vs Cover3

Red's attracts the attention of the underneath defenders and Hopkins has room to work his Out route. The QB is looking at the concept.

But the QB doesn't pull the trigger because he's a third string QB. Hopkins throws up his arms in disgust. Incomplete to the drag route.

It's important to note that this is 2nd and 8. 2 plays before this on 2nd and 8 we ran a deep route to Juice for a 29 yard gain. Here, HOU learns and says, "we're not giving you a deep route and time on 2nd and 8". So, they're coming with an overload blitz off the left side and playing quarters behind it with 2 underneath defenders. We're running a "bench" concept up top with Celek and Juice and a "dagger" with Bourne and Goodwin to the bottom. Bourne's route also works a double post concept with Celek. So, you have 3 concepts working here for 2 vertical and one horizontal stretch of the defense.

You see the 4 deep defenders. This takes away the 2 deep routes and allows the weakside LB to not worry about the deep route. The problem is, this leaves the flat area open.

Once Jimmy saw the blitz he kept his eyes downfield and saw the safeties stay in 2 deep but not widen. This told him to work the bench concept. He moves over there and sees the hi/lo of Celek and Juice. Celek is covered but Juice is open.

He throws a darn near perfect throw in stride to Juice who's able to turn it upfield for a really nice catch and run of 31.

On his dropback you can see he had an unblocked rusher from the snap. He never panicked, he kept his eyes down the middle of the field to read the coverage.

Calmly works the play with a defender coming straight for him.

Throws a darn near perfect pass whilst under immediate pressure. This is the kind of stuff that drives defenses nuts and makes opposing fans throw things at their TV's.

He knows where the "offensive weapon" is

Thanks for the analysis
Yeah, Kyle confirmed said that there was no miscommunication, just a bad pass.

yeah, it was an all curls IIRC and just threw it off target.

Yea, rewatched that play a few times and he was going to Taylor who was open but the throw was off... you can see Clowney get his had up right as Jimmy throws near his arm... I wonder if that caused the errant pass?

2nd & 10. 49ers will play Cover6 with Hopkins side facing Quarters.

Quarters allows the #1 WR to get bracketed inside-outside when the #2 doesn't threaten vertical.

With the bracket on Hopkins, as soon as DH breaks on the Dig, Colbert would have taken over in coverage. Pass incomplete over the middle to TE.

49es bring pressure and play a Cover1 behind it. But they add a twist and will drop Marsh (54) into coverage to help out on Hopkins with any quick underneath throws.

Manned up. Triple team on Hopkins.

The blitz is picked up well. Reid decides to drop coverage on DeAndre White (11).

Coyle finally applies some pressure up the middle and forces Yates from his spot in the pocket. Colbert sees the wide open WR and starts his break to the other side of the field.

Colbert pass defensed.

Pin vs Cover3. Spoon over Hopkins.

After playaction QB decides to go deep. Foster with good positioning to force a tough throw to DH's Dig. Colbert a bit late on his break to the Post. QB about to release and Colbert hasn't turned yet. But let's see his speed...

Pass overthrown.

49ers will bring Foster on a green dog blitz and play Cover1 while double covering Hopkins.

Mabin and Hall (20) not shy about double covering DH.

Pass incomplete to other side of field.

This was a nice play design that I thought JG misfired on. This is more of a Kyle highlight as he dials up a perfect play against the coverage. Both RBs lined up out wide with CBs aligned over them.
vs Tampa2 (rush 3)

The MLB in Tampa2 will turn towards the passing strength of the passing formation, typically the side with 3 WRs (as opposed to the 2 WR side), and carry any vertical route up the middle of the field to protect the seam in between the two safeties. Murphy's (18) route is designed just for that, to take the MLB.

Had ARobinson (19) not gotten shoved hard by a DT, ARob would be near the orange star, flashing in front of the orange Hook defender for Celek to work behind. The yellow area is normally covered by the MLB in Tampa2, but Murphy's route has taken away the MLB. Celek's route is "schemed open".

Throw a tad too high. Incomplete.

Here's a tough guy throw Jimmy makes.

Here HOU shows a single safety look. They come with a cover -1 blitz. They're also going to send any defenders whose men they're responsible for stay in to block. We end up keeping Hyde and Celek in to block. Juice is on a check-release, Celek is on a chip and go and we have Goodwin on a triple move. He's going to run a DIG and break it off to a deep out.

He keeps his eyes downfield and when he sees the blitz he looks at the safety to see it's cover-1. He knows it's 1v1 outside and so he'll look for the corner's hips to get turned. After that it's about timing to get Goodwin after he breaks out.

He had Celek leaking out but he's got a free runner coming at him. He already knows Goodwin won his route so he lets it fly. What I love is how he hangs in the pocket to the very last second to give his receiver a chance to win but has the quick release to get the ball out with a ton of zip. that's a long throw. That's a throw that's about 23-25 yards through the air.

+13 along with another 15 for a roughing the passer penalty.

^Hyde going out of his way to pick up the blitzer, makes himself useless. It's a 7 step timing play. Be patient.
Here's another play where Jimmy got to his 4th read. This time it's while under a ton or pressure

this is one of our trips in the redzone and it's 3rd and 7. We're trying to get bourne on a shallow cross in a "mesh" concept. It's a lo/hi read here. We motion Taylor across revealing man-coverage. The mesh creates a lot of traffic for the man-coverage guy on the shallow cross to try and stay with. So, the shallow cross and in route are reads 1 and 2. On the other side we have a "smash" concept which is hi/lo.

The guy guarding bourne does a good job of staying clear of the traffic. Celek is trying to drive his man to create a pick in there but the defender is playing it well. They are playing a cover-1 robber and he robs the shallow crosser.

Seeing the "mesh" taken away he moves on to the "smash". He sees that Taylor's defender is playing with outside leverage, that's a tough throw, as well as Goodwin's man is playing off, he might have a chance to drop back on that route.

he's got pressure bearing down and he lets it go before Goodwin comes out of his break seeing that he's won his route.

+ 10 on 3rd and 7 with tough pressure from 2 sides.

Any doubt this guy is making our O-line look better? Under immediate pressure he finds the 4th read on the play and makes an accurate throw from a tough angle without his feet set.

Jimmy has shown some gunslinger in him, attempting very tight window throws. Last week he threw one in between three defenders. Here is his gunslinger moment of the week.
I think this is a Cover6 shell. HOU will bring 5 man pressure.

JG completes playaction. Murphy will clear the Cover2 safety.

When Goodwin breaks inside, the Quarters safety (QS) matches Goodwin. There is a flat defender (JJoseph) still lurking watching JG. JG targets Goodwin on the Crosser.

+32. The flat defender somehow squeezes in between Goodwin and the safety while not playing the ball or the WR.
