Aside from not being in SF and the new stadium not having history, stadium for stadium, there is absolutely nothing better about Candlestick than Levis. Period. People are so caught up in nostalgia, that they hold onto past memories and glamorize them. I was a season ticket holder at Candlestick since 1990, and am a current season ticket holder at Levi's. The quality of one versus the other isnt even close. I would love to hear people's reasoning for preferring Candlestick to Levis that doesnt include city or history.

This. Good post.

This. Good post.

Its also hilarious how people act like Candlestick had no traffic issues, the traffic f**king sucked there during games. Candlestick smelled bad, it was ugly as s**t, cold as s**t, windy as s**t.

I'll take Levi's over Candlestick any day of the week. Yeah it has no memories and isn't in SF. Big whoop, its still the 49ers.

Felt like we had a homefield advantage, my brotha. Also, location and nostalgia outweigh new metal and all that.

The urinals at Candlestick were vintage also

Used to take me 1.5-2hrs just to get on the freeway at candlestick. Takes me no more than 15 at Levi's

Where else was he supposed to go?

He wanted to take the team away from SF. Had a couple of offers and he rejected them both. Could have worked out a deal like the Giants and Warriors have had he actually wanted to keep the team here in the city.

They had no choice but to leave. The only site that was an option was a Candlestick Point and the Niners were adamant that they would not build there.

Dude the city had over 20 years to come up with a good plan, and they couldn't. SF politics is such a mess they couldn't get it done, and they lost the team. The Giants privately financed their own stadium. Thats the only reason it happened.

All they could offer was the toxic waste dump at the Hunters Point naval shipyard. Right in the same windy, cold ghetto where Candlestick was. The city is to blame, not the 49ers ownership.

I want the roof with the hole in the middle. Not for the sun, but so it reflect the noise back onto the field.
Would you buy a TV that didn't work? Why buy tickets to a losing effort?

People go to games to watch their team win. Otherwise its a bummer.

I think most people are on board but they are not really psyched about this year is all.

It will pass!!!

This. The SF politics hurdle has been a huge barrier, and has been so for quite some time. I remember Eddie D. trying to deal with it in attempting to build a new stadium in SF.

You got it. These come to mind:

  • Weather. Fall games at the Stick were magic.
  • Vibe. The people, the breeze, the atmosphere.
  • Tailgating experience. One big lot (more or less) where you can walk around, make friends, etc.
  • Familiarity. If you had season tickets, you knew your "neighbors" in the stadium. Levi's doesn't have that yet.

Of course a new stadium is better than an old one - better engineering, better views, better technology, better amenities. I don't think that can argued. But gameday (at least for me) is much, much more than the glass, metal, plastic, and concrete structure. YMMV.
