We look very messy there. Never seen joe get a false start call on second and doable in how many years? That just points to confusion, to me. And hoyer is playing scared, just like gabbert. Get rid of the 2 man.
The defense was junior varsity playing against all stars. I dont know how to put it any other way. Seattle must be absolutely rock bottom. We dont look like we have any beef out there against the big guys. You cant play rookies against good vets. Just cant do it. Too many years in the weight room. We have some players but every run i saw gurley fell forward turning 3 to 5, 4 to 7.
Um the second coming of 2012? Im not seeing it. But we have some pieces. I dont think all the defensive movement and shifting helps. The players arent reading the offense, thinking about their shift assignment.
If you wonder can we be competitive with 100m$ cap space the answer is no.
Excellent Brodie...the defensive movement and shifting doesn't help and makes our DBs uncertain of who and what to cover. Same goes for all the shifting and stunting on O. We didn't confuse the rams one iota. We did, however, get messed up on D when their O came to the line and the ball was snapped...bang , bang. A number of times our DBs had no idea who to cover. Now maybe our DL knows what to do once they have played together a couple yrs, but right now, our D is being taken advantage when the Rams came tot he LOS and the ball was snapped. We weren't sure who to take or where to go. All our shifting did was get us penalties, etc....Joe S was one of them.
And he NEVER does that.

We need a lot more talent to be sure, but looking at the game within the game you can see what the foundation we are building looks like...you can see the plan, and for a team that hasn't had one since Harbaugh left that is really refreshing.
Is this defense going to play Seattle's terrible OL every week?
We're not going to get those kinds of performances. It was obviously a fluke. Any decent OL seems to stuff these guys pretty easily
We also looked good against Carolina, seriously stop with the eye rolling b******t. There is a lot of bad line play in the league this year for example. We should show well against those teams. There is a lot of teams that are relying on the run because of bad QB play, we should show well there too. The Rams on offense are the kind of team that is going to be a big problem for us, elite speed, oozing talent at skill positions, really solid line with a creative scheme. Those are the kind of things that are tough for young teams to deal with. People have to get out of the mindset that we just faced the same old Rams last night. That team is like us when Harb came in, that talent is pouring out the seems...they just needed somebody competent to take charge.

Im sure it has been already said but I blame the loss on Buckner for mouthing off prior to the game saying he is gonna pretty much rough up Goff all night. What a foo, you just inspired their entire offense to protect their QB with a different kind of energy.
Blame Ray Lewis too for stating that offensive linemen arent athletic enough to play on the d-line hence the reason their fat asses are regulated to the offensive side.

Without Juice we couldn't try to power it in with Hyde on that final 2 point conversion. He's a huge part of our run offense with his kick out and seal blocks. Reid and Foster are sorely missed as well right now on the other side of the ball.

That last play, how did we not double team Donald? Guy was destroying us all night. At least make sure he doesn't beat us on that last play.

So many thoughts running through my head this morning, but I have like 12 observations I just have to share.
1. The refs sucked, on both sides. - Dontae Johnson's DPI to negate Elvis Dumervil's sack, Kyle Jucsyck's holding call, Rashard Robinson's DPI call, Garrett Celek's lack of DPI call, to Trent Taylor's OPI call. All absolute garbage. Trent's was icing on the cake for the night. Triplett's crew is garbage and always has been! Even Aaron Donald's penalty was sh*t! 2 weeks in a row we have been treated unfairly. Great teams I guess overcome that - we are not a great team yet.
2. Said at the beginning of the year this team would lose a lot of close games. We've lost 2 close games so far. Very close games. Sadly, hate to bring it back to the refs but they have been a large part of it. Should have been a DPI on Richard Sherman last week on Garcon, 4th qtr. More on refs.
3. A young team makes mistakes. Loses close games. Makes penalties at key moments. Don't always execute to the highest level. I even would go as far as saying they don't get the benefit of the calls sometimes. This team is showing something though. They are showing some fight. Finally, this team is competing and it's so nice to see.
4. Secondaries will get exposed w/o a lack of pass rush. We were able to generate some pressure in Seattle, and some vs. Carolina. The Rams controlled the LOS on the offensive side of the ball all night. Little to no pass rush. Did we even get a sack? Still think this defense needs a true LEO (it's not Armstead) and I also believe Solomon is playing out of position. Really think he's better suited on the inside. Time will tell. Aaron Lynch disappeared again!
5. Linebacker play for us was not good. Bowman really struggled w/ Gurley. Missed at least 4 tackles. Armstrong was Armstrong. Blown assignments, key penalties, he's at best a backup. Can't wait for the return of Foster. But no sense rushing him.
6. Really like our safety play. Between Ward, Tartt and Reid. Glad Tartt's injury was only a concussion. (Easy for me to say) We have some solid to great safeties in this scheme. Some nice backups in Colbert & Jerome. I think our corners can be ok with a pass rush. Like any defense.
7. Can we make it a point in 2018 offseason to find somebody to block Aaron Donald? Seriously. That guy is so good and so disruptive. He owned Fusco, Tomlinson and Kilgore. When all the chips are on the table, and in the 4th qtr... he laid it on the line and ended the game with a sack. I hope Garnett is that guy but I'm not sure about it. I hope I'm wrong. Gotta find a way to block him to have more success.
8. Pierre Garcon is the real deal. He's never been a big redzone target but my god his hands are something of beauty. He plays so hard, wants to win and puts it all out there on the field. Love his fire. Really glad we have him to teach the youngsters. Best WR since Boldin (maybe better).
9. Trent Taylor - love the guy, but he's still young. Learning the nuances of the NFL. On the 2 pt conversion, if he continues his route to the sticks, we have a tie ball game. Instead, he cuts it short and circles back in to the defender. Rookie mistake. I think we have a very solid slot WR in the future though. Really does remind me of a Wes Welker/Amendola/Edelman. Hope he can stay healthy. Great move on the TD catch also.
10. Love Hyde but still worried he can't make it through the whole season. He battled though.
11. Defense really just didn't play disciplined. 1 or more players vacating zone coverages and chasing guys across the field. Throws the whole flow of the defense off. Got to be more disciplined. Got to be able to play the run better. Gurley would get 2 or 3 yards before he was even touched. I thought Bowman looked like an old man in this contest BTW. He's not built to play 2 games in 5 days.
12. A few questionable defensive play calls, and a few questionable offensive play calls. On the flip side, some really nice play calling by Shanahan. Very creative plays. We were in the game. A fascinating game to say the least. I keep telling myself if we lose, that's good for our draft position. I'm tired of that approach though. Our players need to learn how to win now though... and I think we are getting closer and closer. Like what I see for the future. D-line has to play better next week. 10 days of rest should help.

Really impressed with McVay--I think he showed a lot more innovation with his play calling than Shanahan showed, unfortunately for us. Our defense is reminding me of the Rams from before--loaded at D Line but never quite showing it. The secondary was really bad. Loved the fight from the team, though--I hate watching a tent fold up, and they kept working in spite of all the mistakes...very encouraging

McVay is good, but he has a s**tload more to work with than Kyle at the moment.

I for one do not blame him:
DEFOREST BUCKNER, 88.9 OVERALL GRADE
The 49ers may not have had the results on defense they wanted, but Buckner was everywhere. Buckner had two stops in run defense, and he also tallied two pressures rushing the quarterback from the inside and was a disruptive force all night. Buckner routinely beat the blocker designated to block him.

Yeah... Fusco 1 on 1 with Donald was quite a mismatch

Makes it easier when he ignores the game when his defense is on the field.

Goff has looked good all season, and looked good in preseason too.
Not this good obviously, but totally different player compared to last year.
No pressure all night. Where was this "rattling" that was spoken of? Washington shook him up and got him to crumble at the end.

McVay walked into a far better situation. Mostly what he is showing is what a s**t coach Fisher was.
I like what Shanahan is doing. This team never quit, never backed down and that will pay dividends as the young players develop and more talent is added to fill in the weak spots. They were never going to be a good team this season but I was hoping they'd at least be entertaining and last night was pretty entertaining.
