Will this be the first winless team in 49er history?

Weren't those the weeks we couldn't score a TD to save our lives...

We scored TD's against the Rams, Redskins and Colts but that's not the point. The point is we should have won one of those five games but didn't, so now we're here.
I think we will get some wins before the years out.

The team seems better organised and making better plays then last year. It is just a matter of time before things gel properly. On the other side there are too many injuries and not enough depth to work around them. I would be surprised if we got more then two wins but the team is better then Chips and better in the long term. I am not too worried about where we are now and think time will see the team improve enormously. We fans need patience.

I'm just not getting any kind of a head coach vibe from this guy, injuries or no injuries, and that act would be the first hint of passion I've seen from him.
He really is far less than what I'd hoped.

You do realize that we pretty much gutted our entire roster and hit the reset button right? Even the moves we made in the offseason were pretty much to get capable bodies who can potentially be functionable. I'm in no way holding this season against Shanahan whatsoever. You wanna blame somebody blame Baalke for turning this team into a s**t show.

It would be one thing if he inherited this roster and forced to play it like Chip but over 65% of the 53 man roster are his guys...

Baalke left us with nothing. Why would we keep baalkes guys? Most of the people he brought on our squad had no business being with us to begin with.
Odds are that by week 17, Rams will be resting most of their starters cause they will have things locked up. So we may catch a break and be able to pull out a W.

"We" meaning Lynch and Shanahan gutted the roster, not anybody else. In other words, they didn't like Baalke's players? No problem, they had full freedom to replace them with the players they wanted. Then, you add on Shanny being the offensive genius that he is, there is ZERO reason why we should go winless!! That would be worse than Tomsula and Chip Kelly. It would be totally unacceptable!

I had initially penciled down for 4 wins, i.e. just 2 wins more than Chip Kelly last year, but boy did I over-estimate Shanny or did I over-estimate Shanny? It ain't going to happen. It would be a miracle if we could just match last's year's 2 wins, oh and that is if we play Garoppolo perhaps? With Beathard? No chance!
Yeah because in one offseason we can replace all the garbage douce baalke littered our team with and now we are suppose to be top 10 on offense with our players now? most of the players shanahan brought on were just bodies to fill the roster with. Theres no way in hell we can fix all the garbage baalke did to our team in one off season. Baalke had over 60 picks and scrub a$$ free agents on this team that contributed absolutely nothing. Plus he had like two drafts that are completely wiped out the roster. NObody can win with that. NOBODY.

Chip Kelly did.

To add, he had zero say in personnel and had to take whatever Baalke gave him and he still managed 2 wins.

No, the Rams will still probably be playing for home field through out the playoffs by week 17. This game against the Giants will probably determine if we go 0-16, because our remaining schedule is brutal.

I personally feel like the Coaching staff and front office will look back at this year and regret letting go of some of the vets. If more vets were around we would most likely have less penalties and breakdowns in coverage etc. This would of saved us a few games. Hindsight is 20/20 though

I have no idea where to start to fix this season. We have so many non starters starting because we released vets or placed so many on IR. I think we play the rest of the season vanilla to protect who we have and ride it out. If we get a win cool but I expect them to play just to get the fundamentals down. They need that more than what a win would give them.

Agreed.

Also, the proposed approach or solution for the quarterback position has been a complete mistake, be it Hoyer or Beathard. Not that I am a big Kap fan or anything, but I am pretty sure Kap would have done better. Hoyer is not good enough to be a starting or bridge QB and Beathard as a project is a waste of time. The priority should have been placed on drafting a FQB.

Essentially, everything points back to the fact that they made the wrong move by focusing on defense first. I always say at the end of the day, you need to put points on the board to win ball games and yes that would be the offense. Not to mention, Solomon Thomas has been completely underwhelming while Foster has been having an extended summer holiday with his chronic injuries.

I am pretty sure Shanny never thought things could be this dire. He probably thought just by replacing last year's players + his offensive schemes = a couple of more wins than last year. But, heck no!! He was over-confident. No way did he think being the head coach to take a 9ers team to the first winless season in history is a-OK, but now he is totally helpless.

What veterans were let go that would have made a difference? Maybe, Bowman?

With 1/3 of the roster on IR, I'd be shocked if we won a game. It's unrealistic expectations if you do expect wins at this point. We will do good to keep games close from here on out, this offensive line is one of the worst I've ever seen the niners put out there, and I've been watching games since the 80 season.

Tomsula did too, even after wholesale retirement and leaving of our stars. Tomsula also had zero say in personnel and had to take whatever Baalke gave him. Tomsula OMG managed many wins.

So what. he is Kyle Shanahan, a total genius, total job security, and total control of the team. You haters can kiss his ( | ), there are enough apologists to praise losing 16 games, hey, that is sacrificing for future.

The way Bowman was treated irked me but the reality is he is at the end of his career and injuries were starting to hang around like a bad smell. One mistake I think they made was to get rid of Kerley. I don't know their reason.

I think of things this way, this year is a year of pain to clean out all the dead wood and bring in players who have good prospects for the future in the way Shanahan and Lynch envision the way the 49ers will play football. It is not about instant results. It is about building a team structure and philosophy that will work for the future. The roster is vastly different than last year with only some 14 or so players lest who were here in 2016. It will change some more until they get it working the way they want.

Comparing this year with last year is not realistic. Chip had no say in personnel and I would imaging little power with Baalkie lurking behind him at every step as the flawed control freak he was.

The difference this year is Shanahan and Lynch are working together to rebuild and it will be trial and error until they get it right and it will take time for the players to work together as a team. It takes time to gel and although they are to KS's credit looking more organised it will take time for them to gel properly.
