good:
The NFC is WIDE OPEN. NO ONE thought that this year's NFC championship game would be between the Eagles and Vikings, NO ONE. If the 49ers played in the AFC, then they would have to go through Pittsburgh and New England, which in itself, is an insurmountable task. But since they play in the wide open NFC, it's wide open.
They have the boy genius as their hc and they will have some continuity. Continuity is key in today's NFL
They have $120 worth of cap room to work with.
They have some decent draft capital in this coming draft. They can go a number of ways during the draft. Their strategy is wide open. And if Adam Peters has his way with the draft board, then that's only going to benefit the 49ers more.
They had a s**t load of injuries--majority of them from the defensive side of the ball. They're going to get those players healthy and ready to roll in 2018.
Bad:
They play in the what is ARGUABLY the toughest division in the NFC. Getting to the playoffs will not be easy.
They don't have any playoff experience. Even if they do manage to get a first round bye, those playoff experiences are very valuable.
The 49ers, as of right now, has a s**t ton of needs to address. Can they address them in one offseason? Probably not.
This is a fair assessment. I'd just like a winning record, compete for a division title, and a playoff win in 2018. All of those things are goals that don't seem too far out of reach if we have a good offseason.
Also add to to the list is that the 49ers don't have the proper coaches in place. Saleh is an idiot....
Just my 2 cents, but the big UNKNOWN for us is...WTF is on those IR/PUP/ injury lists? Everything we have prognosticated has been with healthy guys. With all the guys Lynch has brot in for a looksee, PLUS that massive crew formerly on IR/PUP, it is going to be fascinating to see exactly what talent we actually have. Some of these guys we've basically never even seen...Joe W, for one. I think for the first time in 5 yrs, we are going to tap that IR list and see just what exactly we have there. I do know this. Anyone still on IR by TC...won't be around much longer. this is the yr we clean out the IR list and start over. Some guys will stick and play healthy. Those that don't , adios. But i have a feeling we may have as many as 2 maybe 3 guys who have been injured that come back this yr and not as rotation but as starters. If we could snag 2 or 3 starters off that injured list, that would be found money for us. And who knows, what if we have 3 guys...or 4...who are bona fide starters. Man would that ever be nice.
As for Corners/S , i am fine with Lynch going to work and bringing us the bacon. Spoon and Adrian in one yr? Rd 3 and 7?? You kidding me? Let's just leave the DBs to Lynch and believe in what he brings home. The guy obviously has an eye for DBs, as he well should, having gotten a SB ring while playing DB. Also, as we saw, if one of the DBs doesn't show well initially, be patient. I'm thinking Spoon here. Whatever he didn't have initially, he sure got religion as the season wore on. Fortunately for us, this yr , primarily due to injury of starters, the GM got the guys on IR/PUP off their duffs and on the field. That is something baalke would never have done. Lynch made sure we got a look at anybody who could fog a mirror.
As for competing, i mean down to the very end....very possible. It is a bit weird in a way. We have serious holes, but yet we are so close to making a run. Truly, just interior OL, OG C OG and ER ...we get all 4 of those guys and we have a serious contender. Somehow we will end up with a LB or 2, another CB, maybe another S, but the big acquisitions are ER which makes everyone on the D better, and the 3 interior OLs which should protect our money guy, JimmyG, for the next 6-8 yrs. Just get him protected and we are in the mix every yr here on out. But we gotta have that ER , one guy , who can make the entire D way, way better. IIf he is there is the draft , go all in for him. If he is in FA, go all in and nail him down. It looks, tho , like it will have to be draft. Not a lot of candidates from FA at ER....well, nobody i like , anyway, unless someone gets hacked off he isn't getting paid, and then we make a move on that guy. It could happpen.
