49ers Mt. Rushmore

We are one the few teams that have a number of players, coaches and even an owner that could be considered for a Mt. Rushmore.

No because the original 4 won without Rice. And the original 4 cover the most parts of a team: Admin, Coach, Offensive Leader, Defensive Leader. I don't think Rice was ever the primary leader on offense. When Lott talks, people shut the f**k up. Don't get that sense with Rice. Rice wasn't able to calm Haley down. Eddie D didn't go seek help from Rice.

Oh I know what you mean and I don't disagree and that is part of the fun in this exercise, I just don't think you can leave Rice off. He's the GOAT, broke every meaningful record while he was here, he also won without Lott, Montana or Walsh and put up monster numbers while remaining a class act, through and through. Nobody outworked Jerry, we've all seen and heard the anecdotes, I don't think you can leave the best player of all-time off of our Mount Rushmore.

Mount Rushmore does not depict the first four Presidents who started it all, it depicts the four most influential Presidents over the first 130 years of American History (obviously others may have been deserving of the honour). I don't think you can tell the history of the 49ers without Jerry Rice, you can't speak about the history of football without mentioning him. Rice may not have had the personality of Lott (who does?) but when he spoke, everyone did listen. Obviously the O guys don't speak to the D guys as often (which is why Lott would calm down Haley and not Montana or Rice) but there is also this story according to Dexter Carter:

But there was one guy that nobody messed with, and Charles didn't even mess with him. But when he messed with him, two weeks later, he was gone. And when I say gone, he was given away to Dallas. Our best defensive player, and he was given away to Dallas, who at the end of the day helped take three rings off of my fingers."
The "him" Carter speaks of is Jerry Rice. Carter wouldn't elaborate on exactly what happened between Rice and Haley, only that it was one incident between them that sparked the trade of Haley to Dallas.
"The day that he went at Jerry Rice and Jerry went back at him, what transpired in that locker room in that morning led to two weeks later the 49ers literally giving Charles away to their toughest competitor," Carter said. "So that kind of tells you, 'Oh my God, what did he do?' There's a little bit more to that story that I can't share on the air, but nonetheless, it's a true story... I'm sure Jerry and Charles are okay today, but back then, you couldn't mess with Jerry."

You realize that they traded Haley because he messed with Rice, right?

Rice was VERY vocal with Deion trying to take the laid back approach in 94.

Eddie D would give up his spot to a player and any player would give up their spot to Walsh so it has to be this:
