9ers4eva should be going apes**t in the thread.
And rightfully so.

Another fair concern:

Definite concern. Not confident in Lenior as full time starter yet And one injury to him or Ward and it's really thin. I like Luter though.

Same! Also, I'm a big fan of Oliver too so what if he goes down?

If Womack is better than Thomas, then maybe we're better off than we thought. Thomas hasn't been all that bad. Not every team has a bunch of #1 CBs on their squad. I feel like Thomas and Luter both could play outside if Lenoir got hurt. Sure there may be drop-off, but it's not likely to be like that fiaso where Allen came off the PS and gave up 100% of catches and multiple TDs.

I have a feeling that our DBs will LOOK better this season because of the front line.

Exactly right, me neither. We've built our roster in a specific way that we're hoping to accomplish that above or at least average level for back end depth and development. You're right that it would take a lot to get in that situation again and hopefully that never happens. Agree that Thomas hasn't been anything special, but he did show some flashes at least and it's hard to imagine him being worse than he was two years ago as a rookie. Ideally, Womack has made a noticeable jump from year one to two also.
We agree on Luter too. Promising although unproven. Same with our UDFA guy Jamison.
We don't know what the new guys will show or what kind of progression the returning young players will show, but overall, the situation probably isn't too different from most teams in the league. We are banking on home grown talent and our new prospects to restock our depth. Usually works out for us. We'll see this time. At least we aren't going into the season with a bunch of known, zero upside turds (like Dontae Johnson) rounding out our depth.

I agree the D Line should avoid the receivers having time to beat a back up CB or even our starters. I believe our D may even be better than last year barring too many injuries.

I didn't realize they had Gipson as the league's 9th best S last year.
5 INT's, 3 PD's, only allowed 19 catches and gave up only a 53% completion percentage to his coverage.
Given his relationship with Hufanga and what he did for him and can now do for Brown, what a freaking steal. Hopefully he continues to play just as well and helps Brown become the next stud S going forward.

Second that... our D line will help. Hargrave and Bosa will not give QBs anytime to throw open receivers.
