Second that... our D line will help. Hargrave and Bosa will not give QBs anytime to throw open receivers.

That's certainly the plan. Kyle and Lynch believe a top 2 DL and running game are the formula for winning a Superbowl. Let's test that out again.
This may be a nitpicky gripe but the corners need to know the situation and play man/tight when the opposing team has the ball within their own 5.

Saw this multiple times in the Steelers game. These guys lining up like 5-10 yards deep when the opposing QB throwing from his own end zone.

Obviously these plays are not going to be long developing plays so you really don't have to worry about being beat over the top.

We have them free room every time they were backed up and they easily grabbed 5-7 yards every time.

Sell out and play man so we can go for the safety or the pick 6.

PERSONALLY, I think our secondary lined up that way because Pickett was the QB.. I expect our new DC to come up w/coverage based on which QB they are facing.. I'd like to see 29 line up closer to the LoC more often..

Especially when we play a QB that can really run.. he needs to be that SPY..

Need to pin ears back. Second year QB make him make a throw and bring pressure.

I think its just conservativeness... really no good reason not to.

I honestly am not really worried about any QB other than a couple veterans being able to toss one up 40 yards from their own end zone and actually punish us.

Most QBs are young and haven't proven it at this point.

The reward is much greater than the risk. What are the chances the QB either gets a safety or flustered and underthrows an outlet and it turns into a pick 6 vs them going 40 yards over the top in a couple seconds?

One is much more likely than the other.
I hope Wilks coaches ambry/lenoir/oliver up after week 1 and they improve since hes supposed to be a great DB guy.

Not going to sugar coat this but I'm
concerned playing the rams because Nacua and Atwell are quick and Oliver, Thomas, and Lenoir don't have that quickness.
The two personnel concerns we had coming in to the season was the right side of the OL and secondary.

This week we'll probably find out more about the secondary.

The players aren't responsible for defensive alignment. That's on Steve Wilks

Right. Stafford won't be missing wide open guys like Pickett. I did notice that in nickel situations Thomas does come on the field. Teams are going to find him. Let' s see if he's ready

49ers were in nickel on the first play of the PIT game (PIT was in 11 personnel). Immediately, Ambry was playing RCB and Lenoir went to slot. Later in the game (2Q?), the 49ers nickel was Lenoir staying at RCB and Oliver came in to play slot - I don't know whether the 49ers switched back and forth with who was in the slot. Kyle was asked about this in his Wednesday presser and said that it was an adjustment they made, and that Kyle would not reveal why to the reporter that asked the question.

Props to Lenoir for having the flexibility to play two positions (RCB/slot). Kyle challenged the reporter to watch the film and figure out why they switched to Oliver in the slot. I may take him up on that challenge tonight. My initial guess is that it has something to do with Dionte Johnson pulling a hamstring, causing PIT to make some personnel adjustments.

edit: DJohnson pulled his hammy in the 3Q so I don't know if Oliver coming in to play slot had anything to do with Johnson's hammy.

Wilks noted a while back that they'd use both. Lenoir for more shifty WR's and Oliver more for TE's, bigger slot WR's, etc. He felt this was the first time he's had that flexibility.

Let me know if that matches what you find.
I swore i had read that Thomas was injured during the game with a concussion. So Lenior went to the outside and Oliver came in. Maybe i was wrong on that.
I wanna see Q. Knight be elevated and given a real shot at Nickel.

Going to be hard for Stafford to pick on Thomas while laying on the turf.

Ambry played all of the 1st half while Oliver had 0 snaps. First play for PIT offense in 2nd half is the catch and run where Dionte Johnson pulled a hammy. 49ers were in base defense, so no third CB was on the field. Next play 49er go nickel and in comes Oliver who played all the 3Q and 4Q snaps until garbage time at 30-7.

That's when Ambry got back onto the field to replace Mooney at LCB for PIT's final drive. Ambry then had a collision with #11 and Warner and got a concussion scare, left the game.
So did something Ambry do in the first half get him benched? Unless it was the Johnson hammy that made the switch but I don't think so. After DJohnson left the game with the hammy, Calvin Austin (5'9") came in as the 3rd WR. So either Ambry got benched because of the first half, Wilks wanted a bigger CB (Oliver) to matchup against Calvin Austin, or it was the plan all along to split halves between Ambry and Oliver.
