Interesting. Oscar also posed Warner at SAM too.

Scot McCloughan on Warner:

"I liked him a lot. I think he's going to be a damn good player, damn good player. If he comes in and he's not the starter right away, which I think he probably will be, you've got a really good core (special) teams guy. … This guy makes plays. He's athletic, he's got enough size to him. He can play the WILL (linebacker spot) or the SAM, in my opinion. He's not a MIKE. Because he doesn't have the strength for it. But he's a good football player, really good football player."
I take it Scot is evaluating out draft. I'm excited to see what this kid can do

Yeah and good stuff in here.

I agree with most of it.

I disagree that Warner isn't long enough to play MIKE. The coaches already said that's his spot. He's got the height, length, speed and IQ to wear to dot at MIKE.

I'm not sure on MM at LT yet but I can certainly understand why he'd think that.

Eric Crocker responded to my question as far as Warner at SAM ...

Yeah SAM is third on my list as well but it could be considered on base downs if Saleh is high on M.Smith and Foster. But yeah, far more ideal at MIKE or WILL.

Yep. Just trying to push for a way to get the young war puppy on the field.

You mean you disagree that Warner isn't strong enough to play MIKE (Scot was saying he isn't strong enough). It's a good question...would he be strong enough to man the middle as MIKE? In this scheme, we'll see - I think he could as quickness plays a big part, which he definitely has.

Sounds like McCloughan is back on the sauce. Ask Deion Jones if he has enough strength to play Mike in this scheme.

The only questions about Warner at Mike are the responsibilities he'd assume and whether a rookie is prepared to handle that.

Ah, good catch. Thanks. Yeah, strength isn't an issue in this defense. If we were playing a 3-4 and we were asking him to play TED as the defensive FB, that'd be another thing. He will have more traffic at MIKE though. The only question we'd have for him early is play recognition and handling the responsibilities of wearing the dot on his helmet but he's a super sharp guy. It probably won't take long to get him permanently into the starting lineup.

PS: Sorry Hero; pretty much just said what you did.

Agreed. I think he's going to fit in great with what they want to do on D.

Thought the same as far as him drinking on Warner not being able to play mike.. He's not physically peaked. Also hero didn't Warner do a lot of stuff our SAM does? Needing to set the edge and s**t at times?

I think so Smoke. He mostly played Nickel this past season which is closer to what our SAM does than our MIKE. He played Inside during senior bowl and was arguably the best one there. I disagree with Scot and think he can play all 3 LB positions. Time will tell, but I'd much prefer him on the field over Harold at SAM or Coyle at MIKE. The 3 starting LBs should be Foster, Smith and Warner.

I think Warner has the potential to play any LB spot but at this current time I think the weakside is by far his best fit.

I concur.

Smith SLB
Foster ILB

Just a quick informal poll.

By a show of hands, who do we think is going to have the better rookie season, Warner or Griffin?
