By a show of hands, who do we think is going to have the better rookie season, Warner or Griffin?

Tough call. Warner may not even see the field this year if Foster is cleared and because both Toomer and M.Smith are well versed in this defense and trusted veterans of Saleh.

Griffin sounds like he'll get some snaps as an ER and in nickel.

Sounds like he'll have to get his hands dirty if he wants to make an impact this year.

Definitely but no doubt Foster and Warner are the future at WILL and MIKE and that's exciting...that, and knowing we can properly develop them vs. rushing them into starter roles because we're desperate.

Agree to a point NC

Even if he is cleared [I hope so] Foster will be suspended for 4-6 games.

So, Fred has a good chance of seeing early action.

I see what you did there...

I think he could be a SAM, get a little stronger add a little bulk... that was my thought when he was drafted

I think Warner will get plenty of playing time year one, with or without Reuben 'Blue Tent' Foster. He is in a perfect situation, where he can be taught no only by coaches but by players that have played in this system. No pressure on him as a rook to perform, but I would not be surprised if he ends up getting lots of snaps.

I have a strong preference for Foster to stay at WILL and to groom Warner for the MIKE position. Warner will be adjusting to a new position so I'm okay with giving him time. Even if it unfolds as Warner being in a reserve role for 2018, with Malcolm/Toomer/Coyle/Foster manning the two stack LB spots, that's fine. The MIKE is a leadership role type of position and although Foster is a well liked teammate, I'd like the MIKE to have a certain level of maturity, accountability, and to be a good communicator. From the several interviews I've seen of Warner, he seems to be that guy.

Perfectly stated. I want Foster clean and at WILL to just fly around and use his instincts which are off the charts. I don't want him with any defensive call responsibilities or having to shift through more traffic. I want him free. That's something Warner can handle at MIKE eventually because he's so smart, he's got veterans to learn from and we have the luxury to develop him properly.

A lot of folks are thinking Malcolm Smith should be that guy, but Smith is an ideal WILL as well. It's a good problem to have I guess, with so many guys that are starter caliber. We're in good shape and I just can't wait to see them hit the field.
Playing Warner at Sam is dumb...sorry but it is.

Will is the perfect spot for him. But I think he can hold up at Mike as well if need be. If Deion Jones can hold up at Mike then Warner and Foster can as well.

Agreed...it wouldn't surprise me at all if he did crack the starting lineup early or even later in the season or worked in on various packages.

Exactly. MIKE and WILL are damn near identical except the MIKE has the added responsibility to make the defensive calls.

Don't be sorry, we all have our own opinions... this is a fan message board, where else are we going to voice our opinions about our team? it's all good

Fred played on the LOS last year a lot holding up and walling the POA, that's one responsibility that SAM has as well as buzzing the flat with pass recognition... Fred to me is the new age SAM, where as Eli is old school and needs to be replaced

I don't think Fred's frame is well suited for Mike, IMO that position needs to be more compact to neutralize and shed second level OL and insert lead blockers... I think he could play Will for sure

Depend on the expectations of Griffin. Hard to gauge at this point, given that fosters status is still up in the air.
