i'm not surprised, it's a day without pads and seeing how the new guys especially fit in. doubt he's gonna be starting mike come day 1, but it's good to see how he can handle that role if needed.

Hell if he can move around that's a plus. He was my favorite pick from the draft.

I also don't expect him to be Mike on opening day. That's a lot to ask from a rookie.

But he'll be out there soon.

He got a ludicrous score on the Wunderlic....what makes you think he can't handle Mike duty?

What's asked of the Mike other than to understand what's being relayed to him in his helmet to the rest of his teammates? Is he reading the O and making adjustments? (If so, that seems like something more of a vet should be doing?)

No, no, I absolutely believe he's capable of handling Mike responsibilities. It's transition period in which a rookie assimilates to the speed of the NFL game that gives me pause. I don't like the idea of a rookie trying to get comfortable while also being responsible for receiving and relaying calls, adjusting calls, ensuring players are lined up correctly, etc.

He hasn't been bad, just hasn't been an impact guy. If he plays so well that someone stays on the bench, that's good for the team.

Eli was a pure pass rusher in college so on top of not having scheme continuity, he was also learning how to be a coverage LB (3-4olb, 4-3sam). I think Eli's journey is the ideal way to find a SAM backer. Draft pass rushers, and if they fail to develop into a competent pass rusher, then make them SAM. The athletic skills from being a good college pass rusher can translate into being a good coverage LB and a player that dominates TE run blocks. In other words, don't draft a SAM, just turn failed LEOs into SAMs. I don't think Eli is going to suddenly find pass rushing skills, but he can still make himself a good base SAM for this defense.

Nice. Any context to Kyle's thoughts on Warner? If Kyle was asked, "tell me about Warner", then eh, what's Kyle supposed to say? But if he was asked an open ended question like, "what rookie has impressed you?", then it's very nice.

He was asked about Warner. There was more to Kyle's answer - he seemed genuinely impressed with how football smart Warner is on the field.

I found it almost impossible to hear the questions:

Hero - Just saw the clip about the new helmet targeting rule. In a way, I get it. Dfensive players need to let go of some very old habits. Such a severe penalty for something that happens on so many plays.
