From reading niner wire, it sounds like Smith was starting MIKE purely because he was the best placed to call the plays, and will shift back to WILL once a better option at MIKE emerges. Sounds like Warner has a real shot to be starting MIKE on opening day, which will leave Foster at his more natural WILL IMO.

Hell if he can move around that's a plus. He was my favorite pick from the draft.

Mine too.

That's be ideal!
Can this kid be our Kam Chancellor?? He's about the same size, same height, same speed and can cover anybody. Why not use him at SS to put God's fear in those WRs,TEs(V.Davis) and RBs at the same time he can provide run support?? He's like a half breed LB and DB.

So does that mean

SAM=Smith
Mike=Warner
Will=Foster?

Not a bad group. Not the best but it's an upgrade from last year.

No.

I wonder if Marsh will get a chance to win the job at SAM or they're gonna save him for nickle. Don't think Jerry is in contention but I could be wrong.
Saleh confirms what we already knew: Warner will only be an ILB.

Good. Leave SAM to the peasants. Freddy needs to master playing off-ball and become the next great 49er LB.

SAM = Harold
Mike = Smith/Warner/Toomer/Foster
WILL = Foster/Warner/Smith/Toomer

The difference between MIKE and WILL in this 4-3 isn't as pronounced as a 4-3 of something, say, the Tony Dungy bucs or Lovie Smith Bears. It's closer to a 3-4 ILB pairing because that MIKE and WILL end up stacked over the guards most times and we play a lot of "under" and "over" where the WILL will be on the weakside in an "under" and the strong side in an "over". I know WILL on the strongside is an oxymoron as WILL is short for weakside. But, in the "over" our personnel group puts Harold on the LOS to the weakside of the set.

Foster played more WILL than anything down the stretch. He would be MIKE in base and WILL in Nickel.

And thankful that our FO was able to pick up a replacement for Brown who wasn't going to be here long term and still fill the same spot. 2 for 1 over what many fans wanted.
Gads, going into draft we needed not just 2 LB starters, but 3 with reuben's GF mess. Then we nab warner, the GF thing magically goes away and suddenly we are talking about which of our 4 LBs are going to strart? And we snaked the best QB out there, way better than whatever anyone got in the draft, and way, way better than kyle's Dreamboat, Kirk. There's plenty of others, but man has this ever been the spring from HEAVEN. Yes we were lucky, but there was an awful lot of good planning and thot that went into all this. And BB didn't just pick 49ers name out of a hat. He WANTED to do a deal with us. Sure, i get his reasons, one not having to face JG anymore than he had to, but also, i believe he wanted his prize possession to go where he would succeed and big time. Welp, that be us. And with Sherman we end up with 4 new CBs. (Potential) Still, aside from ER, after that we done good. Ok, we done great. Now if just one of our OGs comes thru, we will be in high cotton. Could two come thru? Mmmmm....we'll see. I'm not piggy, so would be ok with just one really good one.

c'mon, preseason.

Yep, agree, that was a pretty good deal. Not always will you draft a 7th round pick and trade him to New England and get back a 3rd round pick. I'll take Tavarius Moore vs Trent Brown any day, specially with Brown's weight issues and unknown medical condition and the fact that it's a defensive pick vs an offensive draft pick.

Yep, agree, it was pretty cool that the DA basically failed at his job and should be fired. It screwed up the WebZone big time, specially Mayo!

But now we have a good set of LB's for this defense in 2018. I'm coming around to accepting that ShanaLynch really didn't like any of the Edge Rushers in this years draft. I'm looking forward to the 49ers trading up a boatload of draft picks for an elite edge rusher like one of the Bosa Brothers in the 2019 draft.
