Really like that play where he hand fought the LG off. There was one other notable play I saw from Warner where he met the pulling RG in the hole, at the line of scrimmage.

I think he's just lined up a bit outside the tackle because it's doubles to his side of the field, and it's the wide side. Same responsibility, different leverage. Just a guess.

Agreed about the play where he fought off the guard with his hands, that was explosive and impressive. He has a lot more strength than I thought he was going to have, at least this early on.

That play I was talking about. Read, fill the hole at the LoS, not 1 yard beyond the LoS. Fell down, but the man strength will come in due time. Instincts are good.

If it does, it would be Malcolm Smith moving from WILL to SAM on base downs. This would allow Warner and Foster to stay at their respective positions. Malcolm has the most knowledge to play the SAM with an inside LB moving outside. We'd still need Attaochu to ER on nickel on that strong side so Malcolm would be base only...unless he's some great ER we don't know about. LOL

Doubt it. Shanny said they think all their inside guys could play outside but that's like saying you think your guards could play tackle. They could but its not ideal. Those SAM backed in an under scheme are 3-4 OLB types. Not the patrol the middle types.

Yes he does show good instincts here, but I just don't believe he has the frame or strength to play inside... he really struggles to bend down here to get leverage to take on the pulling guard, the guard skip pulls and here engages with better leverage and mauls Fred... his job on this play is to neutralize the insert blocker and cause the ball carrier to spill, which I don't believe he did either on this play... I still think he is better suited to play as and outside linebacker...

Struggled to bend down? He got lower than the guard lol.

Good stuff. I actually had a question about this play. Does he take on the guard with the correct shoulder here? You said he should spill, meaning he should take on the guard inside shoulder (guard's right shoulder)? He took on the guard's left shoulder.
I think once he gets some strength onto his frame he should be fine in the middle. He is lanky though. Currently listed at 236 at 6'3. Maybe get him to mid 240s worth of muscle.

A few notable plays from Warner's debut vs Texans:

Tackles on back-to-back plays. Freddie is learning to play stack LB, and you can see growth in the mental processing in just back-to-back plays as he keys and shoots his windows faster.

One of Fred's greatest qualities coming out was his ability to defeat blocks with violent hands. In fact, I evaluated every draftable LB, and Freddie was hands down the best at using his hands of all LBs in the draft.

Reub and Freddie on the field together. Freddie cleans up after Reuben. This is a no YAC zone.

This is an interesting play. Fred is playing overhang like he did in college. I need thl/jd's help here. Does Saleh usually put his Mike in the alley like this? Anyhow, Freddie keys the RB, stays home and square, squeezes and gets in on the tackle.

Yeah, he did. Fred is the box fitter. Never wrong arm between the tackles. No off tackle/outside=outside in. Compress lead block outside in with near shoulder/forearm to fill.

A lot of one-gap DCs like their ILBs to play shoot their window vs one back. Saleh may prefer Warner pulls his trigger instead of compressing the wrapper (Reuben did this earlier in the game).
