Right next to him.

Fred=Mike
Reuben=Will

It's Beth like that from day 1!

MIKE imo, move Malcolm Smith to SAM on base downs, he played the before. On Nickle, M.Smith goes out and leaves Foster and Warner in as our LBs. Speed Kills!!

When did M. Smith play SAM?

IIRC, it was some spot duty and injury replacement in Seattle. I mean, if the coaching staff feels Mark Nzeocha can play base SAM, I'm sure Saleh would have zero reservations about Malcolm Smith playing there starting week 3 alongside Warner and Foster.

Things that make you go, "Hmmmmm"

I like what I've seen from him so far. I don't like to pigeon hole a guy and call him a Mike, Will or Sam. I always like to see the best athletes on the field. If you can make plays then you need to be out there. We worry too much about who fits where instead of getting play makers out there.

I guess my only reservation on that is the Reid at WILL debacle last year. Reid was definitely a better player than the 3rd and 4th string LBers we were down to because of injuries and the Bowman release but it was a very poor fit for him and we got trampled.

There are very few players that are transcendent beyond position. While the SAM is still a Lber position it's akin to putting a SS at WILL to move a WILL/MIKE to SAM.

I do believe the coaching staff thinks all their inside guys could play outside but I don't think it's ideal.

It's like if people were saying that after Borland emerged we should've moved Willis to OLB and had Bowman and Borland in the middle. Nearly the same position difference and type.

When they are on the field, they need to play a position. And the best position for a player is based on what skills the player has to offer. There's nothing wrong with recognizing where a player can best help his team and putting him there to maximize his talent. Luke Kuechly and Bobby Wagner are best at MIKE where they can use their smarts to direct the defense and speed to roam the middle. Warner has similar attributes so the team is putting him there.
I have a feeling Admin will be looking for a replacement or insurance plan for Foster in the 2019 draft. Warner appears to be a solid addition and is already wearing the green dot. Foster, quite possibly, will not be on the team in a couple of years. Not due to off field concerns but due to not being on the field enough.
We trade Buck for Mack and look how pretty our LBs would look...

Mack - Foster - Warner.. we can even go w/Marsh as the Elephant LB just like the old 3-4 scheme w/Charles Haley..

you made a thread already suggesting that trade and it got locked. now you are randomly posting about in here.

the injuries were one of his red flags

Interesting post and I tend to agree.

IMO, it will be injuries that shorten Foster's career.

I would trade Foster and a 2nd rounder for Mack.
