Right tackle wasn't a need until after they traded Brown to the Pats. Before the draft, no one would have said that we had a glaring hole at that position.
Now, in order to justify a poor decision made by Shannahan and Lynch, some people here are calling Brown 'lazy' or questioning his work ethic when he consistently (despite his shortcomings in the running game) proved to be a top-tier tackle (one who outperformed Staley in many games).
Pettis excelled against mediocre DBs and won't bring anything new to the table.

Hopefully, he'll be able to shadow TEs as well...
You can tell Saleh was really trying to contain himself, but I noticed the excitement by a certain (more shinier than ever) glow on his dome.
He's pretty fast and has a rangy frame with long enough arms. He can cover well. It's one of his strong suits.

For one, not sure if you noticed but Trent Brown can't stay healthy, hence the reason Shanahan had to rely on Zane Beadles,. I'm sure Shanahan doesn't want to go through that again. Two, Brown reported to the team out of shape. Three, protecting your $137 million QB should always be your #1 priority, especially with the O-line Jimmy G. had in front of him last season. Also, McGlinchey can play both Tackle spots and looks to be the future LT to replace Staley.
As for Pettis, he played against who was in front of him, beat who was in front of him you don't evaluate players like that anyway. I mean if that's the case Carson Wentz and Jimmy Garoppolo should be crap QB's in the NFL. Oh and what school did Jerry Rice come from, it must've been Alabama or LSU, after all that's the reason he's a Hall of Famer right.

Speed is not the worst thing to have on the field and we don't have enough of it. The more the better. We need to get a lot faster all over.
