I miss Starkey, not Ted.

Yeah, I miss Starkey, too.

Starkey is a Niner through and through. Papa will always be a Raider in my mind. Living in Oakland, I heard Papa as much as Starkey, almost. Most of the guys on this website are from out of town, so they do t understand. But Papa was the greatest Raider homer of all time. It's hard for me to make the switch, no mater how talented.
Ted Robinson is a good announcer but he's very low key. Not exciting enough for football. Papa is better for football. That said, I don't listen to the radio anyway. I watch the games on TV. I tried doing the sink thing so I could listen to the Niners guys instead of whoever the TV guys were but every time there was a commercial break ( which is constant in the NFL ) I would have to re-synchronize the radio with the TV action. Too much trouble.

I didn't like Robinson as a Giants announcer and I didn't like him as a 49ers announcer. When I listen to a game I judge it on one thing. Does the announcer get me into it with his voice? Does he get me excited about the play? Starkey, Kuip, Lon are my favorites. Papa I'm going to love. Ted has a lot of knowledge and that would be great if I was in a classroom but I don't listen to be taught I listen to be entertained. For some knowledge of sport is entertaining for me not so much. All about the voice for me. Happy Papa is here.

Agreed. As far as excitement goes, you have to include Bill King. Warriors, A's, and Raiders. He was great at all 3.
Just wondering how many of you listen to the radio broadcast if you are home while watching on TV. If you do how do you manage to keep the radio play by play synchronized with the video. I hate not having the radio and picture in synch.

Dude is already up there with lon Simmons and Don Klein in my book the bonanza dude never did it for me... "highway 101 belongs to Jerry Rice" give me a f**kin break
For me, the jury's out on Papa. I hope he takes the bull by the horns and takes ownership of his job with knowledge, excellence and passion. I've listened to the Niners on radio for many years, going back to Bob Fouts & Lon Simmons. After Fouts left, Lon took over and in my mind is the best we've ever had. Papa has a lot to live up to....hope he can do it.
People complaining about Papa yet the Cardinals are stuck with Ron Wolfley.

They might as well hire Gilbert Gottfried.

Bunch of whiners on here
Would of been awesome if he was our radio guy last year. Imagine him making all those touchdown calls against the Raiders. Raider fans would of been so salty lol
