this dude might be good, but not being good enough to start on the bottom feeder browns is kind of a red flag

He's a young guy who may grow into a swing T or even as the future RT, once Staley retires and McGlinchey moves to LT. Or he'll bust and cost us a 7th rounder. Seems like a good gamble.

Just because the Browns were a bad team doesn't mean their OL is bad. Browns fans who commented on the trade have said that Coleman was never given a fair shot at winning a tackle job and that the new front office is trying to move on from a lot of the previous regime's players.

Coleman isn't anything special. He's an above average run blocker and a below average pass blocker but his athleticism fits the scheme and he is still young enough that better coaching could help him improve.

Beyond that I've seen Browns fans rave about what a great locker room guy he is and just an all around hard worker.

Really? Bitonio at LT and Hubbard at RT (they gave him $37.5MM this off-season). He wasn't beating either of them. The o-line in Cleveland is solid. They have Corbett, Zeitler, and Tretter inside as well.

Definitely. They may suck as a team, but they have a solid Oline.

How long is Gilliam supposed to be out for right now? We could have 10 O-lineman make the 53, but only dress 8 or 9 on game days.

Gary's ass is probably gone tomorrow.

I can see that happening. Coleman was rated as a 2nd round pick by NFL Scouts - his daft bio looks pretty good, however I couldn't find much highlights of his browns career.

Maybe because it's the Browns. You have a better chances searching for videos of real leprechauns.

Heh, I guess PFF is better than nothing, and point well taken. 0-16 team -- *what* highlights!

Looks like another diamond in the rough for Shanahan to mould into a good NFL player.

Hell yeah. this is the kind of guy you root for and has that infectious personality and story that brings locker rooms together.
He started all 16 games last season at RT...that said, think about how much practice he got protecting his QB, as they were behind in most games. Sounds like a potentially good trade to me.
meh, he's a backup tackle. Hopefully we won't have to find out how good he is.

When "cuts' day came and went i was hopeful we would find an outside DL of at least middling talent...however, I also knew that it was much more likely that JL brot us back an OL , especially after the incredible showing of ineptitude we saw in the OLs let go. Cooper, Gilliam....ach! Not a fan of either and hard to believe either of those guys will one day wake up and smell the smelling salts. The rest? Ouch. Just not a lot of talent there.

the big deal was getting to see Garnett AND Person both come alive and give us a 5th OL starter and another starter on the bench. Between the 2 they can cover all spots on the OL. So when JL shows up with Shon, sure , it didn't sound all that great, but early attempts at checking out his film on UTube has been ...well, heartening. Our cuts were well deserved and we needed an OT backup. Not saying he's legit OL starter, but will say he was better than what we cut. ...john made a similar contribution last yr.

Our HC and GM have had trouble with the early OLs they brot in both yrs. But JL has rebounded and we have 5 bona fide starting OLs and one starter on bench who could rotate in and not lose a step. Here's hoping that Shon is one of those guys who needed a change of venue, and new start. Hopefully he is a long termer. For now, i plan to watch and see what happens.
Is Coleman going to the swing tackle or is there a draft pick coming?

I think Coleman will be the swing tackle for us this year

True but Tomlinson couldn't start for the perennial losing Lions and he looks like he'll be a good starter for us.

OMG it's me being optimistic.

125 QB hits later and I don't believe we currently have the OL talent yet to be competitive in the NFC West.
