Doug Baldwin postgame:
"We were seeing a different defense than we saw two weeks ago. And so we had to make some adjustments. I tip my hat to the 49ers and to their coaching staff because they had a good game plan."
Since I didn't watch the first game from all22 I don't know what's changed. I'll find some plays where the 49ers didn't play Cover3 and SEA ran an unsuccessful play.
This was a timely stop because SEA had opened the game with a 9 play TD drive. RJames quickly returns a kickoff TD and the 49er defense is back on the field again. This is the 7th play of their second drive and are on the edge of FG range. It's 1Q so maybe fatigue isn't setting in yet, but it's a lot of plays in a short time.
3rd & 7
49ers show a Cover1 look with CBs pressed up, 1 deep middle safety, two LBs sugar the A gap.
SEA running Sticks concept. There is no defender lined up over the #3 WR (yellow). So if it's man coverage, a quick pass to yellow at the first down marker would move the chains. If it's Cover3, work the Sticks, yellow to orange - horizontal stretch on DJReed.
At the snap, 49ers rotate to Cover2 zone. Now progression is red to orange - vertical stretch on Sherman. But orange is a far, dangerous throw. Take the checkdown.
+4. Punt
