Mirrored Slant-Flats vs Cover3 Pattern match, weakside Hook covers the Over route, same scheme different team.
The changeup here is instead of having the TE run a Curl over the middle, Kyle sends Kittle deep for a vertical stretch on the weakside Hook (marked 'LB').
Trips to the wide side of the field causes the middle deep safety to shade over. This earns more room for Kittle.

Vertical stretch - if the LB gains depth with Kittle, hit Bourne. If the LB is flat footed to cover Bourne, let it rip.
Mullens already mid windup because Kittle with a head of steam vs a LB that has to turn and run is a win for Kittle.

^^^^thanks. I can't recall but I wonder if they came back to this?

How he used two TE's this game. I'm wondering if he saw something with Seattle's version of Cover 3 and wonder if we might target a pass catching TE for games like this for next year (given we haven't used Celek in the passing game all year).

That was an awesome play. Nice to see "Celek-Time" again.

I'm not OG enough to have the All-22 yet, but haven't found anything in regards to the gameplan with heavy pers/sets. Seahawks were particularly aggressive in obvious run down/forms, so that could've been the plan, but they didn't deviate from Cov 1 or 3 yet.

Celek TD was out of 22 pers, in a 13 pers form.

Great use of the fly sweep motion with Goodwin (pulls the CB), and quick PA Power fake.

Fake sucks in the LBs, alley doesn't carry the seam so the FS is on an island who is also slightly shaded to Kittle. Mullens gets a 2 on 1 on the FS playing deep middle and easy toss for the completion. FS angle is pretty awful and then Levi's homefield advantage takes us to Celek time.

Nice play
Watching players at Levi's always looks like they are on a wet/icy field with no cleats. If our players could ever figure out how to stay upright on it, that could give them a huge homefield advantage. Unfortunately our guys fall as often as opponents do.

I loved this play for obvious reasons. I just checked on our seasonal formation usage and we've only ran 22 7% of the time this year and 12 10%.

Kinda off topic but we lead the league in 21 personal at 40% (NE is second at 28%) and are last in 11 personal at 40%. (Bal is second fewest at 53%). We definitely are an outlier when it comes to these groupings.

Was nice of Kittle to not blow up #42 when he had the chance

Good stuff. Kyle and Pete have gone head to head so many times that Kyle needs to come with new stuff just to throw things off. Like you mentioned, the playaction was off Power so Tomlinson pulled. I can probably count on 2 hands the number of times they have run Power this season. It paid off later on Wilson's 16 yard run in OT to set up the winning FG.

Another play where the 49ers disguised coverage to give Wilson something to think about. 1Q 3rd & 10
49ers overload the left side of the OL with a single high safety look. In the previous game, Malcolm Smith was caught trying to cover a deep Over route from a WR. If the 49ers back off their pressure look, it looks like ELee would be the weakside Hook in a Cover3, asked to cover a WR on an Over route.

Postsnap, the 49ers rotate to a Tampa2 look with Warner, 49ers best coverage LB, covering the middle seam. Both Lee and Warner back off with DJReed being the 4th rusher.
33 Moore is squatting short, knowing there is no threat to his deep 1/2. That's why it looks odd for a Cover2 coverage.

By having Reed come from the slot to Wilson's right, it puts a fast guy to the side of the field that right handed QBs like to escape to, Wilson is no different. Reed is able to stay hot on his heels and Wilson throws it away. Punt.
I like what I see from Saleh. Good stuff disguising and varying his coverages.

Celek had three catches entering this game. He had two for 61 yards in this game. No way SEA saw the #2 TE as a threat entering this game.
2Q 1st & 10. Sail vs Cover3
Typical Cover3 buster, but Kyle dresses it up with Kittle running jet sweep motion.

Kittle and the playaction draw in the playside LBs (oranges) enough for Celek to sneak by.

Orange is playside curl/flat - vertical stretch. He can't ignore Kittle and that opens up Celek.

Not bad. A DC can't always disguise because then the QB knows that what he sees presnap will change postsnap.
49ers show a 2 deep zone look.
3Q 2nd & 9
SEA is running what looks to be a route combo with oranges and yellow to attack the two Hook defenders in a Cover3. Whichever Hook defender that shades to cover yellow, will open up the orange route behind it.

Nothing changed. It's really Cover 2 zone.

Wilson sees that this route combo will not beat this coverage within the rhythm of the play. A negative to running mirrored concepts on each side of the field - limited options when the playcall is against the wrong coverage.

Pressure in a QB's face like this and the coverage can be anything it wants.

Was in the car listening to local radio and the play by play guy said this play was a screen pass to Breida with Juice lined out wide outside the numbers. I thought it was creative to put the FB out there to be a blocker, then throw the screen pass over there. But it wasn't a screen pass.
SEA playing some sort of combo coverage here, I can't tell. It may be a broken coverage. The two blue LBs are highlighted because usually they will match the release of the RB out of the backfield. Whichever way out of the backfield the RB goes, that LB will cover him.

Breida crosses the centerline on the playaction, but the blue LB doesn't seem to care.

Mullens first looks to his right, then scans across and finally sees that Breida is uncovered. No idea what that LB is doing, playing Tampa2 as a MIKE covering the middle seam?

Good pass pro allows for Mullens to get to his 4th read.
