Thanks Thl & cameo from jgarf, love seeing this stuff.
This is the 2nd game in a row Saleh is using 3 lineman on 3rd down and sending the extras from varying places, I like it.

How he used two TE's this game. I'm wondering if he saw something with Seattle's version of Cover 3 and wonder if we might target a pass catching TE for games like this for next year (given we haven't used Celek in the passing game all year).
I'm not OG enough to have the All-22 yet, but haven't found anything in regards to the gameplan with heavy pers/sets. Seahawks were particularly aggressive in obvious run down/forms, so that could've been the plan, but they didn't deviate from Cov 1 or 3 yet.
Celek TD was out of 22 pers, in a 13 pers form.
Great use of the fly sweep motion with Goodwin (pulls the CB), and quick PA Power fake.
Fake sucks in the LBs, alley doesn't carry the seam so the FS is on an island who is also slightly shaded to Kittle. Mullens gets a 2 on 1 on the FS playing deep middle and easy toss for the completion. FS angle is pretty awful and then Levi's homefield advantage takes us to Celek time.
Nice play
thanks

Between Kyle scheming and the slippery turf, Celek looking like he's another fast version of Kittle

From 2 weeks ago, but I'm bored and don't have the coaches film for the seahawks game yet, so forgive me.
Fun play for me because of the plays Kyle is setting up off of this look (the long TD to Kittle was off this fake).
This is how the play is drawn up and supposed to go. It is inside zone weak (zone right) with the TE (Kittle) Inserting for the weakside LB, we used to call it 02 Lock meaning backside tackle "locks" on the End and the Y inserts on the WSLB.
Bourne is on a short motion to take care of the safety (I don't like him as a player, but great job here), and Celek wheels on the wide 9. Everyone else is IZ to the right
The fun part here is Kyle and the staff had to know that Denver was going to run the flavor of the month in the Double 4i's with a wide 5 and 9, good scheme.
Makes it more fun is Kyle was setting up the big plays off of this look, Kittle's long TD was off of this Zone Lock concept, and to me looks like he was setting up Mullens for a zone read with a big numbers advantage, but might have kept that in his pocket.
What makes the play successful is Staley's ability to wheel on that 4i, not an easy job, and as much flak as he is getting, Richburg I think has been a tremendous fit, he moves that Nose which is critical.
Great job adapting on the fly, the weakside blitz picked up by Tomlinson, so Kittle just throws his head in there to get movement. Easy ready for Jeff Wilson (could've pressed it more) but 11 yard gain.

I absolutely love screens when teams are backed up.
Here 49ers are 1st and 5 on 49ers 5 ydl after the offsides by the seahawks.
Juice motions from a Strong I offset to a Ace Y off formation.
Juice runs to the flat after arching on OLB. Kittle comes down the LOS to kick out #55, normal outside split zone look (the announcer the other day was terrible by the way, his knowledge of offensive football hurt my brain).
Kittle invites #55 to get outside of him, then pivots to catch the screen. The LT and LG step hard to sell OZ, taking a step too far putting them out of position to get in front of Kittle, plus Kittle is a little quick on his sell.
Regardless that side o f the field is vacated with the down field concept and OZ fake. I talked last year a lot about the screen game being out of sync, this year that has improved tenfold, I think a big reason for that is the addition of Richburg. I know PFF and others are ragging on him hard but he's been a great fit for what Kyle is trying to do, he can get in space, get to the 2nd level, even seen him reach a 3tech which is a tough ask for the center.
Anyway 20 yard gain, and flipped the field

Nice breakdown. Good call by Kyle to play upon the defense aggressiveness, with us in a hole down at the goaline.

Seattle Blows coverages too!! (everyone does)
3rd and 6 play before the Celek Time TD, drive started on the -2 (great drive for Mullen)
Seattle in a pressure Man Free Look. Here is the picture right before the snap. One of the 2 defenders circled should be covering Pettis man to man. You can see the confusion presnap to line up for the Defense and obviously someone doesn't do their job.
49ers are running a simple mesh concept, I used to remember the WCO name for it but it escapes me now. Pettis cuts off his route being aware of being uncovered, not sure if that's what they teach or not but good recognition and Mullens buys enough time to see it.

This has driven me crazy for years! How do you NOT know your own field and conditions and adjust your cleats accordingly. A dude like Ahkello Witherspoon who played soccer his whole life would know that's the first thing you do when you arrive for game day...check the field, test your equipment.

This also highlights the importance of the ZWR...and why Bourne continues to out snap the other WR's (hint: it's not because he's a great receiver).

Old school WCO name was Shallow Cross. It had like 5 pages in their 1994 mini pass install They even had a nice little screen game off of it.

49ers show a 2 deep zone look.
3Q 2nd & 9
SEA is running what looks to be a route combo with oranges and yellow to attack the two Hook defenders in a Cover3. Whichever Hook defender that shades to cover yellow, will open up the orange route behind it.
Nothing changed. It's really Cover 2 zone.
Wilson sees that this route combo will not beat this coverage within the rhythm of the play. A negative to running mirrored concepts on each side of the field - limited options when the playcall is against the wrong coverage.
Pressure in a QB's face like this and the coverage can be anything it wants.
Buck one on one...so disrespectful.
That's a win every damn time

Here's an example from 1997 Holmgren books that kinda captures running a wheel route opposite of that shallow cross. It even a hot.
This is a little different because when I think shallow cross concept I envision a drag running across a hook over the centerline. Holmgren on this play at least subbed a Y dig almost like he one seen in Drive concepts over for the more traditional hook over the centerline.

Those WRs are often lined up close to the formation so their run blocks are very important to the run game. Bourne was pretty pumped up after the whistle in that play.

The big run by Wilson in OT was just an old fashioned Power. Looked like Harbaugh/Roman came in to make a cameo playcall.
